Can anyon tell me what sections the well permits are in?
L SMK RA SUB;UPSHAW 6-22-2H #1 - Mount Olive, North Field, Union Parish, Section 6 - 22N - 2W
L SMK RA SUA;PLUM CRK 13-23-2H #1 - Bayou De Loutre Field, Union Parish, Section 13 - 23N - 2W
Both unit wells in previously formed units.
Here are links to the plats showing the units and the proposed surface and bottom-hole locations for these 2 permitted wells:

The plats are on page 6 in each case. Interestingly, the surface location for the Plum Creek 13-23-2H well is not even in the unit, which consists of Sections 12 and 1 of T23N R2W, but just south of the unit, in Section 13.
How does the surface location differ from the penetration point i.e. what is the surface location? Is it not the pad site? Not understanding how the two can be in different sections.
I think the penetration point is where the Brown Dense formation will actually be penetrated, but the surface location (pad site), according to the plat, will be in the section just south of the unit. SWN probably has plans to drill several wells from the same pad.
Thanks Obed. They already have a pad site but I do not know what section it is in. DeSoto Rig #20 is currently stacked there.
Off unit surface locations are common with horizontal wells. The majority of Haynesville Sale wells are drilled in this manner. It is a more simple operation to build the curve and have the lateral horizontal before penetrating rock within the unit.
The pad site I have seen is obviously in section 13, based on the plat map link above. Why wouldn't they have created units 13 and 12 vs 12 and 1?
SWN is forming 1280 acre units. If they had formed a unit of 12 & 13 that would have left Section 1 as a 640 acre unit. The stateline runs along the north section line of 1.
That makes sense; thanks for the reply.
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
