Received a letter from SEPCO and Kingfisher Exploration offering $5 per acre to conduct seismic operations....no letter, explaining anything, simply a form to sign accepting. I called the number and Mike Chandler answered with a "hello"..very professional. Unable TO GIVE MUCH INFO other than everything goes thru him. He did say 56 sq. miles was area of seismograph studies. One tract of land was leased by Weiser Brown, the other tract was unleased near Marion. I asked how I would benefit by signing...had no answer....suggested I would accept same fee as Plum Creek...still no response.
The last time I agreed to seismic operations,I received $75 per hole.......of course, I had just leased about 3000 acres to Southwestern about 4 years ago.
I would like to hear input from others.

Got the same letter from Kingfisher. I am totally ignorant on the oil and gas stuff. SWN has a lease on my mom's property signed by my dad back in 2009. Both my dad and mom passed away since, leaving my sister and I as heirs.
I called those guys as well and got the same "hello" greeting. It took me by surprise as I expected to get a secretary/receptionist. Not judging them, just seems odd. My question to them was why only my name appeared on the letter/form. The answer was that a separate letter went out to each "grantor" so my sister will receive a letter directed to her.
Back to Jim's post, when you say $75/hole, does that mean that they the "geophysical operations" requested means they will drilling multiple bore holes and they formerly paid out at that $75/hole? Was that in addition to a $ per acre payment as well?
I only have 126 acres which is a far cry from 3000, but I am sort of in the mindset that I am not looking to profit much from a $5/acre payment. I am more interested in this being a preparatory step to SWN drilling in the area. I know there is no guarantee they are going to drill on our property, but this does look like a promising development.
FYI, the guy I talked to at Kingfisher said they weren't planning on starting Geophysical Operations there until June 2014.
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
