WLL's Langford #1 Well in Lower Smackover Reservoir A SUA of Oaks Field Begins Operations

Whiting has apparently taken over this well in 4-22N-7W from AIX and will try to complete it in the Lower Smackover, either as a vertical or horizontal. AIX used 7 5/8" intermediate casing to 11446' when drilling the well, so it could be converted to a horizontal. The well is in Whiting's newly approved 960-acre unit in Oaks Field.

SONRIS Lite reports on 8/13/2013 that a bridge plug was set in this well, which is the first reported activity since 9/28/2012:

Thanks for the info Obed. I think you are exactly right. It is a smart move. Good Luck to WLL and the mineral owners in that unit.

Definitions for those like me, who do not know a thing about these matters.
Bridge Plug
1. n. [Perforating, Well Completions]
A downhole tool that is located and set to isolate the lower part of the wellbore. Bridge plugs may be permanent or retrievable, enabling the lower wellbore to be permanently sealed from production or temporarily isolated from a treatment conducted on an upper zone.
See: bridge

retrievable bridge plug

1. n. [Well Completions]
A type of downhole isolation tool that may be unset and retrieved from the wellbore after use, such as may be required following treatment of an isolated zone. A retrievable bridge plug is frequently used in combination with a packer to enable accurate placement and injection of stimulation or treatment fluids.

In a document filed with the LA Office of Conservation on May 16, 2013, AIX shows the Langford well as an unsuccessful upper Smackover completion, and shows the top of the Smackover as 10480 feet.

The well was logged by Schlumberger to 11450 feet on June 22, 2012, so this must have included at least some of the Lower Smackover. A document dated May 9, 2013, showed a transfer from AIX to Whiting as operator, and Whiting received an amended permit to drill on June 5, 2013, effective May 9, 2013.

Whiting Oil & Gas   Order # 888-E  (Single Drilling & Production Unit)

Definition

The Lower Smackover Zone, Reservoir A, in the Oaks Field is hereby defined as being that oil and gas bearing zone encountered between the depths of 11,277 feet & 11,946 feet (electrical log measurements) in the AIX Energy - Langford No. 1 Well, located in Section 4, Township 22 North, Range 7 West, Claiborne Parish, La.

The LSBD is over 700 ft. thick at that location. That gives WLL a large target. I can't tell from the permit if this a horizontal or not. Mr. Sanders told me WLL would set a bridge plug below the kick off point if they were to go horizontal.
