The Bosh Well No.9A has been completed by GMX Resources Inc. in the Bethany Field. This well is located ten miles southeast from Marshall with a depth of 6,800-feet. When gauged on a 16/64-inch choke and flowed with 15 barrels of crude. Production is in the Travis Peak Consolidated formation.

When gauged on a 18/64- inch choke, the Molhusen Well No.1 potentialed 656,000 cubic feet of gas. Riverstone Energy Operating, LLC has completed this well to a depth of 10,975- feet in the Oak Hill Field 5.2 miles west of Hallsville. Production is in the Cotton Valley formation.

Forest Oil Corp. has completed the Briggs CV Gas Unit Well No.4C in the Woodlawn Field. This well is located 11 miles northeast of Marshall with a depth of 9,939-feet. When gauged on a 26/64-inch choke, the well potentialed 81,000 cubic feet of gas. Production is in the Travis Peak formation.

The Woodlawn Field has seen the McCowan Well No.1 completed by Valence Operating Co. This well is located 16.5 miles east from Marshall with a depth of 12,140-feet. No test data was recorded. Production is in the Pettit-Page formation.

BP America Production Co. has completed the Findley Gas Unit “B” Well No.5H and the Findley Gas Unit “A” Well No.7H in the Woodlawn Field. The No.5H is located 1.4 miles east from Woodlawn with a depth of 13,080-feet and potentialed 4.842 million cubic feet of gas when gauged on an adjustable choke. The No.7H is located 2.7 miles east from Woodlawn with a depth of 12,496-feet and potentialed 6.046 million cubic feet of gas when gauged on an adjustable choke. Production is in the Cotton Valley formation.

The Verhalen “B” Well No.7H will be drilled by GMX Resources Inc. in the Carthage, North (Bossier Shale) Field. The well will be drilled 8.2 miles southeast from Marshall in the Poe, A Survey, A-19 and will bottom at 13,000-feet.

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of) nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…
