When gauged on a 18/64-inch choke, the Shoults Well No.1 potentialed 733,000 cubic feet of gas. Riverstone Energy Operating, LLC has completed this well to a depth of 10,600-feet 9.6 miles northwest of Marshall in the Hallsville, Northeast (Cotton Valley) Field. Production is in the Cotton Valley formation.

The Carthage Field has seen the Letourneau Gas Unit 2 Well No.19HH and the Letourneau GU 3 Well No.23HH completed by Anadarko E&P Company LP. The No.19HH is located 17.1 miles southwest from Marshall with a depth of 15,805-feet and potentialed 2.563 million cubic feet of gas when gauged ona n adjustable choke. The No.23HH is lcaoted 16.4 miles southwest from Marshall with a depth of 16,177-feet and potentialed 7.068 million cubic feet of gas when gauged on an adjustable choke. Production is in the Haynesville Shale formation.

When gauged on an adjustable choke, the Le- Tourneau GU 1 Well No.9 potentialed 618,000 cubic feet of gas. Anadarko E & P Company LP has completed this well to a depth of 10,530-feet and is located 14.9 miles southwest from Marshall. Production is in the Cotton Valley formation.

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of) nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…
