The Abney, J. K. Well No.9H will be drilled 2.5 miles southwest from Waskom in the Waskom (Cotton Valley) Field. The well will be drilled by Devon Energy Production Company, LP to a depth of 12,500-feet in the Wilson, T D Survey, A- 809.

In a lease ten miles southeast from Marshall, in the Carthage, North (Bossier Shale) Field, the Mia Austin Well No.6H will be drilled by GMX Resources Inc. This well will bottom at 13,000- feet in the Williams, W Survey, A-757.

Anadarko E&P Company LP will drill the Letourneau Gas Unit 6 Wel No.28HH in the Carthage (Haynesville Shale) Field. This well will be located 18.4 miles southwest from Marshall in the Pearson, T K Survey, A-586 with a depth of 12,500- feet.

Harrsion County

Samson Lone Star, LLC has completed the Kain GU 1 Well No.1 and the Joiner, J. W. GU 1 Well No.5 in the Waskom Field. The No.1 is located five miles northwest from Elysian Field with a depth of 11,631-feet and potentialed 1.585 million cubic feet of gas when gauged on a 16/64-inch choke. Production is in the Haynesville formation. The No.5 is located 7.5 miles northwest from Waskom with a depth of 11,342-feet and potentialed 1.768 million cubic feet of gas when gauged on a 24/64- inch choke. Production is in the Cotton Valley formation.

In a lease 15 miles southwest of Marshall, in the Oak Hill Field, the Letourneau GU 1 Well No.10 has been completed by Anadarko E&P Company LP. This well bottoms at 10,518-feet and potentialed 762,000 cubic feet of gas when gauged on an adjustable choke. Production is in the Cotton Valley formation.

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
