A person was quoted in the McComb Enterprise-Journal yesterday (06/06/2012) saying:

"Boland said PAR officials are still deciding on the most effective locations to put oil rigs, but she noted that a well operated by another company just north of town off of Interstate 55 is not producing."

The town spoken of is Summit and I assume the Moak Heirs well.  Does anyone know if she means the well was a "dry hole", was shut-in, or not completed?

I think this answers my question.  Apparently a test well drilled to recover core samples.

State Oil and Gas Board -- Thursday, March 22, 2012

SUMMIT FIELD - Pike County.
Petition of Roundtree and Associates, Inc., requesting the Board to integrate all interests in a 40-acre oil unit, situated in the SW/4 of the NW/4 of Section23, Township4North, Range7 East, to directionally drill the Moak Heirs 23-5 No.1 Well to a depth of 11,100' to test all zones down through the Lower Tuscaloosa Formation and all other formations and pools that may be encountered at a regular bottom hole location.

The No. 1 Moak Heirs 23-5 well was completed pumping 31 barrels per day. I'm sure that's not the volume they were hoping for but at least it is producing.

Recordman -- Apparently this was a vertical well, as it was on a 40 acre plot.  I thought I read somewhere that it was called a "test well".  Do you know if that is true?

I don't know anything about this being a "test well" but I guess it could be. Wish I knew more about it.

According to the Southeastern Oil Review this is an outpost well (not sure what that means). The article also states that there is another well about 1/2 mile west southwest that is pumping 157 barrels per day, the No. 1 Cain et al, completed by Larco Drilling Co. I can't find any info about this well on the Miss Oil and Gas board site. Both companies that show up under Larco are listed as being inactive. Do you know anything about this well?

No.  That's the first I've heard of it.  Maybe they reactivated a shut-in well.

Has anyone heard that drilling will be picking up in Pike County? Particularly the south of the county.
