Is it common for well production to drop SO rapidly?  Our well #240843 has produced the following so far since it began in mid-August, 2010:

Half of Aug/Sept  163,800

Oct    110,713

Nov   88,014

Dec  74,222

At this rate, it will be dead in another few months!

Yes., however each month the decline is a little less.  On an 80% first year decline curve, the twelfth month should be approximately 32,760 MCF.  Monthly production and decline are also dependent on the choke setting.  There are numerous site discussions regarding decline curve.  Just use those key words to search the archives.

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
