Depends on the state, first (TX? - LA?). The title has to be "run" by someone familiar with the laws, understands what mineral / royalty reservations mean, how to compile the history, run probates, etc... usually a landman or attorney. LOL
I do not see the humor in this question.
Not easy Kevin...very time consuming even for experienced types. You basically go to the court house and runs the persons name who currently owns the surface property. Look at the document whereby they came to own it and see if the previous grantor reserved all or part of the minerals. If not do the exact same thing for the seller of the property, rinse and repeat on and on back to the original land grant.

In LA it's easier. I think you only have to go back ten years on mineral reservations. The mineral rights revert back to the surface owner after ten years if drilling operations have not begun. Hope this helps.
Thank you Jon... I appreciate it.
How do we find out what survey our land is in?
You need to find the deed where you came to own it or your heirs came to own it. It should be filed of record at the clerk's office. If you are getting taxed on the property, check with the tax office for a legal description.

This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…
