Shaleeee, don't put too much stake into Petrohawk's "core" area map as it is of doubtful quality for the southern porttion of the Haynesville Shale play. Heck, I can remember the early days in 2008 when everything south of Caddo/Bossier was downplayed.
Went to the clerks office to check the day book...hey. nothing but humanity wall to wall.....forget that.

Thanks for that information;we land owner's that do not live in Sabine Parish need that information ever-so-often.
I wonder how long Mr. Corley will last. I am sure CHK would love to stop any flow of information that comes from the Corley land title archives and own that information for their exclusive use.
Gentlemen, the point is, specifics are important. And the specifics are there for those who wish to know them. As I have mentioned numerous times before conveyance documents filed of public record are one of the best sources of accurate information concerning what companies are doing what where.
Ken, I agree with you about the possibility of Sabine Parish - there are too many people in the parish that were part of the drilling in the past that know the gas is down there - shallow and lots of it - do not know if it will be Haynesville but "a rose by any other name is still a rose". In my job I have the opportunity to talk (more importantly listen) to people involved in the activity going on in the parish - and they are of the opinion that this parish is in for a wild ride and should be prepared for what is to come after the companies get their huge number of leases held by production.

Skip, sometimes the deal on a lease (or many leases) is agreed on before it is recorded in the Clerk's office (which makes the agreement legal and of public record) And of course this could work in the favor of an operator to keep the bonus money amount in check. One thing about living in a small town is that seldom is there activity or information kept private for very long. LOL Admittedly there are times the rumor mill is wrong or partially wrong.
Shaleee, unfortunately the leases recorded at the Clerk's office do not contain the bonus amount paid. And leasing companies do not record their executed leases on a daily basis, They record them periodically in bunches. That is why when you are reviewing the day book you must look back for a month or more. Yes, they are legal but they are not "of public record" until they are certified and recorded by the Clerk of Court. Many lessees will record a Memo of Lease which not only has no bonus amount but no royalty fraction. What is contained in all lease forms recorded is the Grantor, the Grantee and the location of the minerals leased. And do not forget to review the Right Of Way agreements as they are helpful also. IMO, the rumor mill, in Sabine Parish or anywhere else in a play like this, is totally or substantially flawed in the vast majority of cases. That is why it is so important to seek other sources of information to help judge the validity of those rumors. I cringe to think that anyone would make a business decision of this magnitude based solely on rumor.
I also know a lot of leases that were done and never appeared in the Index when they were posting...they have curtailed that due to lack of space I am told.
Thanks for the heads up, ken. Nothing beats a trip in person to the Clerk's office to look at the Day Book for those that have that option. The Sabine Index ain't bad as a free public record for those who can not. Those who wish to have access to all the current filings may do so for $100 a month by applying for a remote access account. A good investment for a couple of months of access for those who are involved in negotiating a lease.
Speaking of rumors, I have heard that the whole Parish of Sabine down to N.Vernon Parish is going to be leased up due to the Bossier Shale and other formations for oil and gas this year and next. The information is coming from three independent sources and one within the oil and gas industry. This is strickly a rumor; I do not think it is impossible considering the times we live in and the amount of shallow and mid-level drilling over the years in the Parish.
That would be wonderful, however I am going to keep my day job. Nice to see they are starting to lease minereals under the lake though.
Here is an example of the difference between rumor and reality. There are over 40 townships, in whole or in part, in Sabine Parish. The leasing activity represented in the two Sabine Index Clerk of Court public record lists is located in 9 townships. And those 9 are in the far northwest portion of the parish.
