Looking forward to hearing about this! And at the same time, how about the one going in Weyanoke area  - in the Sligo, Irondale, Hwy 66 triangle? Not certain exactly how this one is being accessed.

Mr Skip, why did your comment get deleted?

Dana, there are two wells currently being drilled in W Feliciana.  I started to reply but was leaving to head out of town and didn't have the time to determine your location.  You see "the Sligo, Irondale, Hwy 66 triangle means nothing to me as I am not local.  I gave my parish map a quick glance and saw Hwy 66 but not Sligo or Irondale.  Neither comes up in a Google search either.  So the first lesson regarding the tracking and discussion of wells is to know location by section-township-range.  The s-t-r is used extensively in describing the location of drilling units and wells.  You download a township grid,  become familiar with the serpentine numbering sequence, the relationship of one township to the next by Township number (north/south) and Range (east/west).  It is the PLSS System.

I appreciate you taking the time to explain, I'm new at all of the oil talk.. Thanks for the info, looks like I have a lot of learning to left before I can understand much else...  Have a wonderful day..

Yes, there is a lot to learn. GHS is a good place to start.  Here is a link to a map of W Feliciana that uses the PLSS system.  You will notice that when I start a discussion for a well I include the section-township-range so that it can be located on the parish map.

Thank you so much for the map information. Now, I understand about the section numbers when discussing this, as well as being able to pinpoint a well location when reading anything.

Of course, then there's the naming of the wells, which... one can only appreciate, if one knows the specific landowner where the well is being drilled, yes?

So, while you are being so kind as to provide this information, is there a site where one can check on the locations of wells, drilling information?

I know I've seen SONRIS information posted before, but now I feel like a have a small tool that *might* help me sort this through.

Thank you, Skip, and Thank you DANA for asking the question to get me started, too.

You're welcome.  Go to the SONRIS Help Center Group (note: it is not pronounced son-ris.  it is pronounced sunrise.  The sunrise image is the hint that many miss, LOL), here's a link:

Use the links in the group heading but understand that they are old (we get tired of changing them every time the staff changes the database links).  You want to click on Data Access then go down the list and choose the different search options.  When you click on one it will add it to your personal search list so you only have to do it once.  Start with the discussion, Basic Well Search By Section-Township-Range and follow the instructions.

Although that is the most widely used well search (and the reason why knowing the s-t-r is important) there are other search options.  Wells By:  Field, Parish, Operator, Status, etc.  There are many good discussions in the SONRIS Help Center Group.  To see them all you must click on View All at the bottom of the first page.  There will be a quiz.  LOL!  Good Luck.

Too tired tonight, but soon, VERY soon, I'll be ready for taking that quiz. THANK YOU!
