As a basic: The state of Louisiana is divided into units. Each of those units is represented by townships (T) and ranges(R). Each separate unit is divided sections(S).

As an example, lets use the large map to locate Keachi. Following the Township axis, we find Keachi to be located in Township 14. Using the Range axis, we can see that Keachi is located in Range 15. Now that we know that Keachi is located in T14, Range 15, we need to locate which section Keachi is located. if you were to take the smaller map, and overlay it on T14-R15, you can identify the section where Keachi is located. Using the smaller map, we can see that Keachi is in section 21. Given this information, we learn that Keachi is located in T14-R15-S21. There are a few more things to consider, such as north/south boundaries, and east/west boundaries, but I purposely omitted those from my example. One you understand how to use the map(s), the boundaries will become self explanatory.

Can someone explain for me how this map is read? What is standard notation for a place on the map? How do you translate from notation to the map and from the map to standard notation of a location?
