It seems, you are referring to those who lost their rights when the state seize their property? We pay our property taxes and are not in this category. So, I hope I can safely assume, when I verify no "production" near my home by any who might have held the mineral rights, Then I am now the legal owner.

Minerals can be held forever when dealing with a goverment entity. The landowners that sold land for Toledo Bend will own the minerals forever. In 1921 the state constitution was ammended giving the State of Louisiana the ownership of all rights to the beds and bottoms of all navigable bodies of water in the state. It also gave the state the power to reserve minerals forever on any land the state accquired through tax sales not redeemed in the 3 year perscripted period.

Tuscaloosa Trend Sits On Top Of Poorest Neighbourhood For Decades - Yet No Royalties Ever Paid To The Community -- Why??

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.

This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…
