"At a time when we should be working to enhance our energy supplies here at home, we believe it would be a mistake to pursue policies that would make it more expensive or difficult to access critical natural-gas resources," the group said. Republican lawmakers also have urged Mr. Salazar not to do away with the practice of granting categorical exclusions altogether, saying better guidance to BLM staff is needed

Making it harder for the energy companies to drill on BLM land sure should have a long term posiive effect on the price of natural gas produced right here in the Haynesville Shale, which has no BLM land that I am aware of.
I guess the Barksdale Reservation has some BLM land
Looks like the administration is wanting a bigger piece of the action like they did with the drug companies.
I'll bet they could drill if the payoffs were larger. Just a matter of time before they start messing with non BLM lands..
BLM lands are public--meaning they owned by all of us. Isn't it correct for us to protect the lands that we own from bad practices and negotiate deals that are favorable to us, the landowner? I would do the same on my own personal land. The background for this is 200 years of We the People virtually giving our minerals, timber, and grazing rights away for pennies to private companies.
Salazar Says Interior Is No Longer 'Handmaiden' To Oil And Gas Industry

Salazaar is a dolt as is his boss. They want to not only defer drilling and make it more expensive, they want to shut it down. That's okay. There are lots of countries who want U.S. oil/gas company money. Several shale deals being done in Russia, China and the Ukraine. Bulgaria is also working deals. sorry to see communist countries moving ahead of the good ol' U.S.A. but that's what our dear beloved leader wants.

How's that "change" working for you?
Shut it down????? Where does it say that???

"He said significant onshore and offshore acreage has been leased already that has not yet been developed. "Offshore, we have 7,735 active leases, of which only 5,211 are now producing. Onshore, we have 55,385 active leases, about 26,000 of which are not producing. Large parts of the public domain have been made available to the oil and gas industry, and large parts of that have not been developed," he said.

"We should look at economic factors, such as lower oil and gas prices," Abbey suggested. "That means that companies are idling wells on public and private lands. It's simple economics at work. We intend to assure the industry that we take our responsibility seriously about including oil and gas as we diversify our resource portfolio."

Sounds familiar?

And from IPAMS ...

""We were very encouraged to hear that Secretary Salazar believes '…it is important for the oil and gas industry to have certainty.' We look forward to meeting with [DOI] to explore ideas about how America can more responsibly develop its federal energy resources," it said."

Yeah, let's just let them pillage & plunder our own country like they do in S. America, Russia, China. The companies ARE the US, what makes the US ... oh, wait, some of those companies had to be bailed out by Everyday Joe Taxpayers recently because of relaxed regs ... well, you know. 80)
