Thanks Les
I am seeing alot of activity ie pads, pipelines and wells being drilled in 16n 10w and 16n 9w in Bienville
What do the shaded pink areas mean?
The squares shaded pink are the townships that have at least one section with a HA (Haynesville zone) Drilling and Production Unit Order or application. Drilling units are not wells. A unit designation allows an operator to force pool all mineral interests within the unit boundaries and drill the maximum allowed number of wells by spacing regulations. In the sequence of the development of the Haynesville Shale, in most cases unit applications come first. Therefore they are a leading indicator of the progress of the Play and the approximate area it covers.
Thanks for the info...... There is a rig behind my house just off of Twin Oaks and Hwy 171 do you by chance know what S T R that it is in. I have heard different things from different people. Thanks.
Michael, that is insufficient information for me to answer your question. If you post it on the correct parish group page, I suspect that you will receive some comments from those members who know where Twin Oaks is located. On the Main Page, click on "View All"if you don't see the specific group that you need. The group pages are quite beneficial as you will find members who share your interests and know all the local landmarks.
Skip,
Do I understand correctly that an operator can drill a well in a "non-unitized" section? We are in T16N R15W S13-one of 3 - not unitzed.
Ann
Ann. An operator may drill a "lease well" as a "voluntary drilling unit" if they have 100% of the mineral interests leased within the boundaries of that unit and the unit may not exceed the spacing regulations set forth by the LOC. In the specific case of a Haynesville well, the unit size could not exceed 80 acres and the operator could not perforate the well bore closer that 330' to the unit boundary. A number of wells have been permitted as "non-unitized Haynesville stringers" but prior to completion the section in which they are located is unitized. An operator doesn't want to drill a single well. They want to drill the maximum allowed. Therefore they will complete the unitization process and pool all the minerals prior to completion barring any unforeseen problems. I assume that the majority of "non-unitized" Haynesville wells are drilled where the oldest leases are approaching expiration and meet the requirements of a "voluntary" unit yet the operator has not leased sufficient mineral interests to start the "compulsory unit" application. No unleased mineral owner within the section is having their gas drained and they are in a favorable position to negotiate a lease owing to the fact that the operator wants to establish a compulsory drilling & production unit prior to turning a completed well to sales.
Skip, great info - thanks! Ann
Ann, most of the "non-unitized" Haynesville Shale wells were permitted during the time period between the Haynesville Unit application and hearing date so they could not be shown as "unitized". It is now rarer to see Haynesville wells permitted in sections that do not have at least have a unit application in progress.
Thanks Les B for sharing your knowledge of these complex issues! - Ann
