Samson to release lease
We have been notified by Samson's legal office that they intend to release the lease on Sec 19, T17N-R9W by the end of the month. It appears that Samson wants to pursue other energy markets. We feel they have been holding our lease 'hostage' and not actively trying to increase production. We will be entertaining offers as soon as the form is signed.
How much does it cost to shut down a well as opposed to simply going through the 5.5" production pipe and going beyond 10610' into the lucrative shale layer? I suppose they can afford it. Anyone else affected by this decision

Apparently Samson is cutting back significantly. They had been talking to us about some shallow mineral rights in western Nacogdoches county. Then we got a message last week that they were suspending leasing (how widespread?) and only honoring leases that had already been mailed. The landman sounded like his job was being suspended - at least temporarily.

Rumor is that Samson is going to pursue the lignite business. Who knows. They have a cash balance of $1 billion. They can do just about anything they want.

Samson Contour has Louisiana HA unit applications posted to the Public Hearing schedule today for S5,8 - 10N - 10W in the Grogan Field (Natchitoches Parish), S18 - 10N - 10W in the San Miguel Creek Field (Natchitoches Parish)) and S19 - 11N - 10W and S11 - 11N - 11W in the Chemard Lake Field (DeSoto/Natchitoches parishes). I believe they are shifting their focus south.

No, just moving from one HA area (northeast corner) to another one (south/southeast) in LA. Samson Contour is infamous for forming numerous HA drilling units although they drill very few HA horizontal wells.

skip i hope sampson drills horz welll as they have my lease. i know they are pressing along down here in the southeast, they have two wells drilled . the pipline is in place for both wells. they just got through fracing the ruffin well and they have another one permitted. plus the new units that they are applying for.

Ledlights, realize that by shifting south Samson has a shot at both the Haynesville Shale and Bossier Shale plays.

Okay, so they are shifting their deep emphasis to the south in La. I am still curious about the possible shift in shallow ops on the Texas side. A change in where they think the best shallow opportunities are? A remarshaling of resources toward the deeper play on the Texas side? A cutback for the Texas business?

They sure have acquired a bunch of leases in 17-11 and 18-11 within the last year.
