Skip, is this the first application for any section in T7?
Correct. No other 7N townships have applications.
This well is certainly a serious data point for T-7.
And key to a continuation of the Play to the south/southwest. As much for E. TX. as for NW. LA. Forest's well is the Olympia Minerals 7H #1 (S/N 241002) in the Zwolle Field. It is a significant step out from areas with sufficient wells to judge the productive extent of the shale. The 8N townships have not yet been proven. It's exciting but also a little daunting as the shale does not go on forever and every step out brings the Play closer to another economic boundary. I hope the 7N townships prove up. Good Luck.
Skip, There is a pad in place and part of the rig is up on the well in 7N 13W - this well is located off of the Blue Lake Road and the signs read Patterson Unit Rig 543 - does this mean that the application hearing will have no bearing on the well being drilled? Is this a Haynesville well or a Haynesville Bossier well? Is Patterson Unit an operator for Petrohawk?
Shaleee, the application is for a drilling & production unit, not a well. The well only requires a permit. No notice and no hearing. Forest is the operator, Patterson is the drilling contractor hired by them to drill this well. This far south, it's hard to tell but I think the Haynesville is the target. It's so far south that it should be considered a "test" well to some extent and Forest will be looking at all the potential pay zones and certainly the Bossier would be of great interest as most of the blob maps show this area as the southern most extent of the BO. A producible combo play would be most welcome this far south.
Thanks Skip, It is exciting and a little scary - it seems that a lot depends on the outcome of this well (for T7) Our interest is in T7 11W so this may be an indication of what is in our area - but maybe not - I do not understand how this works.
SB, actually there was an earlier application by Petrohawk in T7N-R11W that was later withdrawn.
The following is the Haynesville Unit and the permitted Haynesville Shale well:

S7-T7N-R13W, HA RA SUS Unit, Forest, Zwolle Field, Sabine Parish

Forest, Olympia Minerals 7 #H1 Well, Serial #241002, S7-T7N-R13W

The location is on trend with two EnCana well permits and should be an interesting test.
Cheasapeake has leased in T7-S22-R13 so they see some potential also.
Les, Do you know the reason the application in T7 11W was withdrawn - there was talk that there was a problem with the new Wal Mart owners - but that does not seem plausible because in Caddo there are many wells in the area of commercial property - another theory was that Petrohawk was not ready to take on the leasing required to drill this well.
Shaleeee, there were comments by others that the Wal-Mart issue was the reason but I do not have the details.

The second reason seems less likely as obtaining a Haynesville Unit does not commit the operator to drill a well. Some Haynesville Units obtained in 2008 still do not have a permitted well.

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
