Good point Les B. Still a lot of territory left to be proven.
I agree that at least the southern portion of this map on the La side has to be a work in progress. It excludes most of T11N,R12W and T11N,R13W, and excludes all of T10N,R12W; T9N, R12W; and T10N,R13W. Several good Haynesville wells have been reported in those townships, including Lobakay (239772) (18.1), Waldon (239937) (16.5), San Patricio (239738) (17.2), Chk Minerals (240216) (15.6), and Sistrunk 239983) (self-reported at 17 mmcf/day). I'm fairly certain these are all Haynesville wells and not Bossier wells. All of these wells are in the area designated "more prospective for Bossier", which might be true (the Jimmy Ray Brown Bossier well was self-reported at 20 mmcf/day), but is Petrohawk suggesting that those townships are not viable for Haynesville development?
Les B,
You have it exactly right. The "4 B EUR" line drawn by Petrohawk in the southern part of the play very conveniently includes their sections and excludes the Sabine Parish holdings of CHK, SWEPI, and EnCana.
Jay, every operators' map shows the Haynesville Shale extending into northern Sabine Parish and southeastern Shelby County. The only question is how far south does the economic area extend.
Skip,
Can you tell where 18N-11W-20 falls on map? Can't see it clearly enough to tell. Thanks
For those members seeking to locate sections/townships in the NE corner of the HK map, I suggest using Dixie Inn as a reference. It is located at the northern tip of the blue representing the Bistineau/Dorcheat waterway that is in the white portion of the map just below and slightly left of the capital "D" in "Do not plan to drill".
Skip, can you answer my question about what does areas highlighted in blue mean? For instance Lane Shoal. Thanks LJW
This is the first time I recall seeing Lane Shoal on a map of the Play. Sabine Island is an uplift where the shale pinches out. Looking at the contour lines around Lane Shoal, my guess would be that is also an uplift where the shale pinches out. But than again, IANAG ( I Am Not A Geologist). I suggest that you direct your question to Jay.
I would ask him but there are 100 Jay's in the list of members. Which one is he? Also thanks for your info. If that is true it is very disappointing to me. Have minerals in that area. Would that exclude it from all drilling or just Haynesville/Bossier?
I believe that formations/zones shallower than the uplift would not be affected. Formations at and below the same stratigraphic depth would end or be pinched out upon reaching the uplift. It is helpful to keep in mind that the producing formations we discuss were deposited in ancient basins. By that very definition, there are limits to the area where deposition can occur.
I know there are some good producing Cotton Valley wells within a mile or so of our minerals. What would be considered a fair bonus in your opinion if we only lease to the Cotton Valley?
LJW,

I suggest that you also take a look at page 40 of the Petrohawk presentation.

That area where you are at NW of that Lane Shoal feature (according to these new Petrohawk maps) might be pinched out on the Haynesville, but it does still look to fall within the prospective area for Bossier.

Also, with the multiple stacked formations in this region of East Texas it might also be plausable that your region could still have CV, James Lime, Pettet (oil) and even a few other shallower formations that might not have been effected by that feature.

There has also been much speculation that HA/BO have been pinched out in Sabine Parish and Sabine County by the Sabine Uplift geological feature - yet the acreage is still being leased and, just today, CHK has filed for a HA permit in Sabine County.

Once wells do end up getting drilled in those areas it will then end up proving up or negating just what formations will be productive.

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
