If you think we are in a mess now, what do you think is going to happen when people start defaulting on their non-secured debt? If you think some corporations are over-leveraged, what about the average American? If people have stopped paying their Mortgages, how many people are going to stop paying their credit cards?

Hi Parker,
The mortage companys need to take a really long hard look & re think their repossession of peoples property in default. Why don't they contact the people & put a baloon note at the end of the mortages on the behind payments & let the people get caught current with a fresh start. It makes no sense to repo property & let it sit and deterioate. As for the non secured debts, the credit card company need to go in and adjust the interest rate they charge their customers (lower it) so payment can be made & ease their burden to repay. The mortgage companys & credit card companys could do this is they wanted. So what ever happens to them in the long run will be caused by their own greed. Ginger
Hi Ginger,
Would it not be easier for the consumer to read and understand a agreement before they sign it.
That's what I do.
That's fine there are exception's to every rule that is a very small minority. But that's not the problem and you know it people have taken on too much debt they have spent way over there means and to pretend otherwise would be sticking your head in the sand.
Well then forgive my debt, is my debt any different from there's. So now I have to bailout everybody because I pay my bills on time. Give me a special deal on my credit card give me lower payments on my house. What's that we can't because you pay your bills on time so you don't qualify. That's what they are trying to sell to the American people and we are not buying it.
I have said that from the start they all need to be held accountable. Consumers, corporations,Wall street, banks. Do we let off one sector off because we don't want to go after another. Congress doesn't want to investigate this thing there not even talking about. That's because there hands are all over it democrats and republicans a like. For Pelosi to stand up there and point fingers just shows how dumb she thinks we are.
KB,
You must think I was born with a silver spoon or a silver foot in my mouth. I didn't come from money as you know I didn't even graduate from high school. So when you start talking tuff times I have been there before. How you choose to deal with them makes up your character you either go at them head on or your blame somebody else. I'm tired of people blaming somebody else and looking to government to solve there problems. For the rest of the people you mentioned give them a a hand but don't lump them all together.
KB,
Didn't Biden vote for that bill? Maybe because he had all those credit card companies in Delaware staring him in the face which goes back to the politics of influence that he used on the state level even though he is a Senator involved in federal level. Why won't people just say he is another politician and just be done with it the truth will set you free.
I would have more empathy if I didn't see so many folks parked at all the restaurants and wearing those designer clothes!
Granted stuff happens but then for many folks, it's just easier to go ahead and make one's self feel good now and worry about paying for it later.
I think what got folks caught in a bind was caused by all the inflation associated with outrageous Oil prices and mandated ethanol requirements. People were making it until their daily living costs went up and they found they didn't have enough money left over to pay bills.
This was like a huge tax bestowed upon them.
I don't see this situation getting any better until either income gets better or energy prices, along with the associated inflation it caused, come down.
The government can bail out all day long and things will not improve until folks get some disposable income in their pockets.
I sure hope we aren't in for another round of taxation. That will just put many more folks that much further behind, speaking of those who are really trying to be responsible that is.
It certainly makes thinking about jumping on the government gravy train more attractive. I mean why be responsible, just let the government deal with it, right?
Question is, what liberties will we have to give up to do so?
Milk came from the subsidy buy out. And it went up again this past year after the grain shortage from ethanol production.
You can't say energy and ethanol had no impact.
In fact the economy had been strong up until about a year ago.
About the time the oil prices went through the roof and ethanol became subsidized and mandated to be blended with gasoline. Have you priced cooking oil lately?
I didn't mean to make this a political issue. I was just thinking about the mess that so many are in.

It's sort of like Enron. If you relied on the what the books said, you could have been suckered into investing in the corporation. It was all a facade though. There was no way for the public to know the truth.

I'm not saying that the population didn't readily buy into the facade.

I was only trying to say, "look the emporor doesn't have on any clothes". Most of us already know this but some still haven't seen anything past the end of their own noses. Most don't want to admit the reality.

I am just totally lost as to what will actually clean up the mess.
Parker,
That's ok, you know we love it. It's not your fault it alway's turns political. The left in this coutry alway's points fingers instead of coming up with solutions . To me it's a win, win situation if McCain get's it great. If Obama get's great I don't have to listen to the liberals complain about everything in this country anymore they will have the Congress, the Senate and the Presidency the big three all at once the blaming George Bush for everything will be gone.It will be time for them to put up or shut up
No it won't! Bush will become their excuse!
