I saw a thread, I believe here, questioning why it is so expensive to fly into SHV.
I could not find it to reference it. I remember reading ti was less expensive to fly to houst or Dallas then drive to the area or to Arkansas. How long is the drive, are there shuttles? I don't like long drives.

I will be flying to the area in the next few months and wanted to know what are some of the alternative routes that may be less expensive and if there are airlines or other means of flying into SHV that can reduce the cost. I will be flying from the west coast or from Florida if we stop there first.

Last, why is it so much to fly to SHV. In 2008, we flew from the west coast to Tampa, then Tampa to SHV. the fare from West Coast to Tampa (cross country) was less than the Fare from TPA to SHV, and we flew off peak?!

Is it the SHV Airport governing body making the price so high or the airlines themselves in collusion?

With what I am sure is more arrivals and departures than they have ever imagined with all of the HS activity, you would think they would drop the fares.

Low traffic volume compared to the major hubs.
Think of what it may cost to maintain ground operations spread against the number of flights to justify the presence.
But on the other hand, flights to and from Alexandria, LA are lower than Shreveport. Kind of shoots down my theory..
Kind of like when gasoline prices go up when there's just a threat of a storm possibly forming in the GOM, huh?
They do it because they can get away with it, right?
Whenever I fly I always go to Alexandria now. It's cheaper, cleaner, and while it's small it's new and modern. Plus I live in Mansfield and it's only like 20 minutes longer due to no city traffic and no dangerous neighborhoods to drive through. I'll never use Shreveport Regional again.
Jay hit the nail on the head. Shreveport tried to get SWAL when they re-modeled S'Port air port. I fly to Little Rock or Dallas about 6 times a year on Southwest and then drive to Springhill, La. It is about 2.5 hour drive from Little Rock or about 4 hours from Dallas. Southwest is always my airline of choice wherevever I fly. I really like their rapid rewards plan to earn free flights. They always are my airline of choice. They are much more flexible than other airlines. Check them out. It is worth doing so.
Agree. Alexandria's new airport is really nice, easy to use.
I agree SouthernDude, I live in Jonesboro and always go to Alexandria. They have a wonderful airport with very reasonable rates.
i am going to phoenix sunday, scheduled the flight yesterday. checked on flights out of shreveport and they were $1000 +. checked on Alexandria and they were $560. This is the second week in a row shreveport has lost my business because they are too high. they'll lose it again next week when I go to oklahoma.
Lack of competition and pro-monopoly government agencies. What the heck do you expect when you allow all the airlines to merge with each other?
Jack Blake always prefers Alexandria. Jack can remember that during his first flight after Katrina (before AEX was rebuilt) Jac was standing outr front smoking and some guy pulled up carried his bags over by the door and asked me to watch them while he parked his car...Jack Blake said yes and then laughed to himself about noty worrying about security there. They now have security like everywhere else.
What about all those security workers. I'm glad I,m notm one......They remind Jack Blake of people who would be on the gov't dole if they were not security workers for the gov't. just sayin...........
i am flying to pittsburgh monday. on tuesday i scheduled my flight. from shreveport it was 1100+ $, from alexandria it was 315 $. the flight from s'port was going to memphis and the flight from alexandria was going to memphis then both segments used the same flight into pitt. that is highway robbery! i chose alexandria and will drive the extra hour or so.
Tyler Tx is a good option for coming to Shreveport.
Also if you come in from the west coast you can get very cheap fares from LasVegas to Shreveport on Allegiant.
Also from Orlando FL. Sometimes as low as $49 one way. Of course I don't know what it will cost to get to either LV or Orlando.
I believe that Allegiant Air ended the flights to/from Orlando, much to my dismay.
