I'm trying to figure out the location of the Parsons #2 well (serial #990222) on Sec.15, 12N, 12W.  I'm arguing with my family over its location.  (None of us are in Louisiana, so we can't drive out there and check.  That probably wouldn't help us one way or the other now that I think about it.)

I see longitude and latitude on Sonris, but that's not helping me.  If you were to cut section 15 up into a grid, like a chessboard:

  a   b   c   d   e   f   g   h

1

2

3

4

5

6

7

8

each square would be 10 acres.  In what square would that well be?

I'm thinking 4d, but my family is saying that it can't be there, but I'm look at the

GIS map on sonris and that's where it seems to be. Any help would be...helpful. Thanks!

TH, it looks dead center on the attached map.

Yep, when I look at the map on Sonris it looks near dead center to me, too.

Family are saying "it just looks like that on the map". (?!?)

Is there any source other than Sonris to get the location?

A distance from the west border and north border of the section would be fantastic!

Thanks.

Plug in your latitude and longitude coordinates here and see a satellite image of the location.  Keep in mind the image you see is NOT in real time, it may actually be from several years back.  However the location will be accurate.  Good luck.

According to sonris, the lat and lon are 32.02704521 and -93.58524052, respectively, which indeed put it smack in the middle of the section.  You can use this mapping site (you can turn the aerial photos on and off) and make sure to have the PLSS box (Public Land Survey System, i.e., township/range) checked, to see where it is.

Is it possible that the information on sonris is wrong?

(It gives the exact same lat & lon for two different wells.)

Is there a way to verify (other than going out to 15.12.12 with

a GPS device) the location other than sonris?

Tar Heel,

Attached is a LEASE FACILITY INSPECTION REPORT with GPS (Lat, Lon) and photos of site.

Thanks, FXEF.

I had a look at that.  The coordinates on the report are different from the ones on sonris.  (I know that the ones in the report are DMS and in sonris it's decimals, but I converted the DMS to decimals and came up with a different location. Considering the different locations that could have the same DMS rounded to the nearest tenth of a second still wouldn't put this well where I thought it was.)  Should I contact the folks who produce sonris and tell them of this error?

Thanks.
