Austin Chalk in Louisiana: including Avoyelles, Rapides, Pointe Coupee, Florida Parishes, East Baton Rouge, Vernon

Horizontal drilling, improved seismic testing,  and liner casing are offering new hope for the deep minerals in parts of the Austin Chalk which runs from near Austin, Texas through the middle of Louisiana to Biloxi Mississippi. 

In 1995, the USGS determined that the Austin Chalk is one of our Nation's largest, onshore domestic unconventional, continuous-type oil resource. More recently, exploration and production in frontier areas of Texas and Louisiana have shown that the Austin Chalk has additional potential as a continuous-type deep-gas resource mostly to the east and downdip of existing oil plays.

Over a decade later, now leasing and drilling activity is picking up in certain parishes of Central Louisiana following improved technologies.

Austin chalk runs from above New Orleans to Pointe Coupee, Avoyelles Rapides and Vernon Parishes

I agree. In '95 I was approached by CHK to reenter a well that was drilled to WX by Sierra. I have 10 3/4 inch surface pipe to 3000ft. and they wanted to use it to drill into Austin Chalk but I was leased to Amoco at the time. By the time I got free of Amoco CHK had changed from a E&P Company to an acquisition company. You are correct they almost tanked. So we never got drilled. I'm hoping that someone gets interested in coming back into this area and doing something.

Masters Creek?  Wasn't Duke now Eagle Rock have a large facility there for awhile?

Yes.  Originally the field was encompassed by interests from Sonat, CHK and UPR (now Anadarko).  Duke operated the infrastructure, then Eagle Rock.  Not sure who might have it now.

Eagle Rock Energy has the old Duke stuff but are not doing anything with it right now.

Hi all. I work for Eagle Rock as a Corrosion Technician and have been reading all post  pertaining to the Louisiana Eagle Ford and the Auston Chalk. I worked as a plant operator at the Masters Creek Gas Plant from construction to shuting the plant down. When Duke Energy Feild Services bought the Brookeland/Masters Creek assets in 2000, they shut the Masters Creek Plant down in 2002 and started delivering the gas to the Brookeland Gas Plant near Jasper TX. There is no processing equipment at the Masters Creek Plant site. Just an office and a shop left. However, depending on Anadarko's sucsess in the Burr Ferry and Pinewood feild areas, there is talk within Eagle Rock to construct a 60mmcf cryogenic processing plant at the Master Creek old plant site.

Shale Geo or Harold 5011 etc., Thanks for your input, please explain 5,465 BWPB as reported by Anadarko's Gasrs #5. I also have fond memories of the Master Creek Field, families old home place.
I know this subject was touched on earlier, but do ya'll expect drilling of new laterals in existing wells?

last month i found a tarball on my land T4N R3W. since this is 20 miles west of bentley, do yall have any suggestions. i have been back weekly and have found no more tarballs.
my mom leased the land back in the 80's, but the oil dropped to $10/barrel and interest dropped.
i would love feedback.

i don't know who my mom leased it to, but haven't the rights expired? how do i check if i still have the mineral rights?

If you still own the land, you should still own the minerals if you had leased in the 90s. If you sold the land, you can only reserve minerals for a few years unless there is production. What is a tarball?

it is really a tarball about the size of a golf ball. it is definitely petroleum based.
i was thinking of showing it to a geologist. i keep hoping for a gusher or even another tarball, but i have not found one. it is 30 acres near mcnutt, and almost the highest hill in rapides parish (about 200'.) we are bordered by roy o martin lumber co. and kisatche forest. also the headwaters of bayou boeuf. spring water!! also situated about 5 miles from hot wells.
there has been no landman activity in the courthouse recently. i was thinking of contacting andarko or another oil company directly? i do have a cousin married to a landman. could he help?
