I've got some property in Natchitoches Parish and see that CHK has recently completed a well in 20-13N-7W. Does anyone know of any leasing activity in this area or directly eastward? Thank you.

Skip, there may be various reasons but clay content is not likely to be one of them in this area.
HY, this is an excellent well regardless of its location relative to some company's arbitrary map.
GD, you know this can't be a good well because Petrohawk said it wasn't. Of course Petrohawk doesn't exist anymore.
Les, the results of the Guin well clearly seem to deviate from the trend in the area. Would you speculate that the completion might be in the Bossier? Or that Chesapeake has come up with a different completion/frac methodology?
SB, the Guin well was completed at a depth > 13,000 ft which is ~ 1,500 ft deeper than the other two wells. So it could be a Haynesville Shale completion while the others may actually be in the Bossier Shale. It is hard to tell without additional information.
L.B.:
Roger that. HK was pretty much feathering HK's leasing nest, so to speak, even though they seemed to offer better maps than some of the other operators (who still are feathering -- if it serves their hawking purposes to say, overseas investors -- too).
And there could be more to the story than some are aware of, in that the Guin well had some serious down-hole problems that were quite expensive to correct. A costly fix, to say the least.
Plus, the IP is still out on the CHK 17 13N 7W well. I wonder why?
And, as you know, the CHK 8 13N 7W well was drilled up-dip (on a harsh slant) and was flared extensively before the official IP (as best as I can understand it). Again, this was a radical slant, dip down -- which is also telling as to the geology of the two CHK wells in sections 17 and 20 (i.e., the Guin) -- with both being due south in those butted-up Ashland sections. So, like has been discussed before, that's 3 CHK wells sorta in a straight line -- way east -- way east of the proven wells by EnCana/Shell in RR P.
Three CHK wells, as you know, but maybe others reading this aren't up to speed on this intel.
Note also that there's hearsay that CHK didn't want to open up that Guin well, but the EPA told them that the pressure was high and that CHK needed to pipeline it out. Don't know if this is true or not, but that's what I was told by someone who is a so-called "boot on the ground."
Also, the word is that all 3 wells are paying royalties, although I question if the section-17 well is or is not. Unsure, but again, this is what I was told.
Finally, there's talk that CHK may shut-in the Guin well. Don't know about the other two wells. Possibly, this would be a NG pricing decision, I would guess (but I don't know for sure on CHK's part).
Plus, people need to remember that Aubrey McC. is still shopping for big money from Asia to flip some stuff. That's telling, too.
So, seems to me, per the complexity of the situation, per these wells being so far east and per certain folks clearly defining the formations there as both HA and BO -- then, y'know, it seems that one shoe don't fit all and that there's more to this story than a lot of folks may realize.
I do know that here is a good bit of land that has come out of lease near those 3 CHK wells -- per the low-ball bad old leases -- and that the landowners around Ashland are kinda waiting to see what this all means.
So there's a go bit of land, in and around Ashland, that's not leased to CHK anymore.
Thanks, Les, for all of your clear and well-stated professional insight over the years on GHS. Your lengthy job history in the O&G biz is exceptional, which makes your feedback and opinions topnotch.
Much appreciated.
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
