Skip, is that a BD well ?
Smk B is above the BD.
The significance of this well is that it is an application for horizontal drilling in the Upper Smackover. There is much current activity in N LA that is not related to the Brown Dense.
I see that the above Tellus application for the cross unit horizontal well in the Smackover B zone was approved by the Commissioner of Conservation on 6/28/2013, effective 6/11/2013.

I don't see that the well has been started yet, but it will be very interesting to see how it comes out. As Skip has said, it seems to be one of the first attempts at horizontal production in the Upper Smackover.
Tellus has a number of producing verticals in the SMK B in these and surrounding sections so they know the rock. They have horizontal drilling experience so it may only be a matter of how cheaply they can drill and complete for the EUR. SWN should have been recruiting companies like Tellus to test non-BD targets across their leasehold years ago. The window to do that has largely closed. I suspect that many small independents are relieved.
Skip, thanks for posting the report from the Shreveport Times of 11/17/2013, that the above well has been permitted. This permit finally appeared on the SONRIS Lite database today:

You're welcome, obed. I posted a link to the Oil & Gas News discussion on the Main Page not long ago. Tellus is a modest size operator. They may just move right in and start drilling. Thanks for posting it here. We should try to steer replies to this thread.
Is this unit the following: SW/4-S27, SE/4-S28, NE/4-S33, NW/4-S34 all in T22N, R5W ?
They are calling this well a cross-unit lateral between 2 320-acre units, but in effect it does seem that it is a 640-acre unit consisting of the parts that you describe.
Talked with a Tellus official this morning who confirmed that the cross section unit (deffinitely 640acres) has been approved, well permitted, pad currently being prepared, horiz driller tentatively selected, and a landman contacted me beginning pipeline talk about crossing our land about 3 miles SE of site.
I hear that the Benson-Penton 33-28 HC well will be spudded on 2/20/14 by Helmerich & Payne rig #238. I'm happy to see it finally getting underway.
Did you spring for a rig report subscription, obed?
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
