Avery on April 30, 2013 at 11:13 Some 35-40 years ago, in response to cries for help from local farmers, the Catahoula Parish Police Jury invited expert opinion from the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries about how to solve the beaver problem. The expert appeared at the next Jury meeting and dourly enumerated the many things that would not solve the problem (bounty, hired trapper,etc.), before brightening and stating that there was one natural control that was effective: alligators. "But," he added, "let me tell you before you rush out and stock your place with alligators...they are hell on small dogs and chillun!" Today, we no longer have beavers on our place but we don't let kids play near the water at night either...
