This PDF has been available online for some time. I pasted a paragraph from that file below. I was hoping someone with more knowledge would know if this information still stands considering the amount of drilling that has taken place in the TMS since it was written.
Thanks!!
"Strong oil and gas shows on mudlogs and drilling reports through the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale (TMS - Eagle Ford equivalent) indicate potential for development of unconventional reserves. The TMS is over-pressured in Livingston Parish and is the likely source of oil produced from the Austin Chalk. A high percentage of calcium carbonate is a key reservoir characteristic of the prolific Eagle Ford Shale in Texas because it increases the "fracability" of the shale. Similarly, limey shales and the presence of increased calcium carbonate in the TMS in Livingston Parish would likely respond well to horizontal drilling and multi-staged fracs."

If a more carbonaceous YMS formation is what's needed for success, then my conclusion is perhaps closer to the truth. Exploration of the TMS should have begun on the western side of Louisiana, where there is also less clay content down yonder way. This, assuming there is sufficient formation depth to be economic. That seems to be the one big possible downside, a shallow formation. You would think these E&P's did put a pencil to it before they started over in the east, but it's been my limited experience they sometimes run in packs to wherever will affect their stock price the most in the short run. Then they start flippin' to the Johnny-come-latelys sitting on massive hoards a cash who want in at any cost. Some of that has already gone on in the TMS. A few more good wells, and the lid will blow off the play.
Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
