Do We Really Know What "THE FRINGES REALLY ARE?"......

I've read However, if someone could define what fringes are in relation to the O & G play going on in LA ( North, West, East and South) that would be really nice. I'm eager to hear the interpretations.

The "fringes" are the areas just adjoining the "hotspots" of Caddo and DeSoto and Webster Parishes. The Shelby and San Augustine counties are examples of western fringe areas, Sabine and Natchitoches Parish are southern fringe areas. No one is really sure yet how far the boundaries of the shale extend.
My in-laws property is in Natchitoches Parish--near Marthaville--and the leasing is slowly and surely moving this way..perhaps a year from now the "fringe" will be even further south...
I believe the fringe is any new area they come into , or at least thats what they tell you. What happens when they really do get to the fringes ? Remember the boy that cried wolf !
AMEN, taylor!!!
"You so crazy!" LOL
Fringes are okay as long as they keep moving. If they keep moving, maybe they will eventually cover all of Natchitoches and Sabine Parishes. I think that the O&G companies have a very good idea where the Haynesville shale lies. I feel like they are frantically leasing everything possible in the core right now. Once that gets completed, they will start trying to define the edge of the play. They don't have enough rigs here yet to drill the core, much less play around trying to define the outer edges. We will probably have to rely on the smaller companies to find the edge. However, they won't get here while the prices are so high. They can't afford to "play" right now. Just my 2 cents.
Some major companies (Shell & EnCana) are already attempting to define the southern extent and build acreage positions. This will continue as other major players such as XTO & EOG join in the party. Heck I would not be surprised if BP decided to take a position.

By the way in the Barnett Shale the terms Tier 1, Tier 2 & Tier 3 acreage were used to describe different areas.
See new map showing range of shale posted today. They are looking at a HUGE area. Granted, this info could change but as of right now it looks very promising!
The North LA Salt Basin takes in a large area of the state, it takes in about half of Rapides Parish to the South and touches the Eastern border of the state East of Marksville. The shale formations exist in the salt basin.
Taylor:
I agree whole heartedly with you. I watch each and every day for this to occur. I encourage those who are easterly to read up on the LA Salt Basin, there is a lot of info on the net about it and will give you some indication of the potential your land might have.

Natch
Depends on where you are on going below 14,000 ft, seems to me that if you punctured the under layer of salt you would lose product and maybe get water into the formation.
