Basics and logistics of blocks and drilling

Hi all!!! We just passed our 10 yr mark for our mineral rights. I know I need to contact the current lessee for notification. But, I do want to find out for myself information on the block we are in and whether drilling activity has commenced.

Can anybody out ther give me any basic starter reference points of contact. Is there a place these things are filed or listed with maps?

Congratulations.  Describe the location of your LA mineral interest by section-township-range.  If you don't know the s-t-r, state the parish and a description by road intersections and approximate mileage.

Ok. Here I am. We are in section 61 Township 3S range 3E tracts 2F and 2G 10.375 acres.

Not much going in in your area but that simply gives you time to learn how to track activity and educate yourself on managing your minerals.

Know where your mineral interest is located in relation to current activity.

Join the TMS groups.  The easiest way to do that is to click on the state silhouettes (LA and MS) and join the Tuscaloosa Marine Shale and MS Mineral Owners general interest groups and then the LA parishes (W & E Feliciana, St Helena, Tangipahoa) and the MS counties (Wilkinson and Amite).

This is great stuff Skip. I will certainly do that. I joined EFP Saturday but that's it.

Good to know we're not too late. We have been sweating it in the wait for out rights.

I'll begin my learning process. My land is currently leased. I'm guessing until that lease expires, a new one by me cannot be put in place. Or I guess the lessee can just extend the lease per the contract even tho new rights owners exist.

If you have not already done so, inform the company holding the lease of your ownership.  You may need to provide them with the deed that contains the mineral reservation for their records.  You can contact them by phone but also suggest that you send them a registered letter.  If you know the instrument number or the book and page for the recorded deed you should include that in your letter.  Get a return receipt for your records.
