I have 20 acres in 17N-1W-18 located on the border between Lincoln and Jackson Parishes. The land was just leased in early 2015. Now I received a letter from Seitel requesting to do a 3-D geophysical survey during 2016. Appears to be a good sign of possible drilling activities. I assume this will depend on the price of gas/oil in the near term.

It is a logical follow up to the leasing.  What it will reveal is unknown but considering the current price of natural gas and Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs) and the term of the leases this is a reasonable interim step before putting together a drilling plan. I wouldn't expect MRD to drill any wells east or south of 18N-3W in 2016 but maybe in 2017.

When my property was surveyed I only allowed cables no blasting.
We got a letter also, our land is north of Hwy 80 and west of Ruston. We have leased our land there for 30+ years but never received a request to survey.

L Faber, that's interesting because your land (west of Ruston) is quite a long way from J. Watson's in 18-17N-1W.  Was your letter also from Seitel Data?

According to the plan, a total of approximately 89 sq miles will be surveyed. It appears to be mostly west of Ruston.
I erred in the location, it is actually 17N-2W-18.

Thanks for the correction.  The general locations and size of shoot makes sense.  Probable cost less than $7M.
