Hey guys , anyone know anything about Petroguard drilling and production?  I found alittle bit of information about them online after a brief search.    They have been in Avoyelles parish for a long time in the Wilcox play just south of bunkie close to I-49.  They are making lease offers in central  Evangeline parish along hwy 106.

wow, that doesn't look too good Skip.. thanks for the info.   whats your advice going forward?

Red flags alone are not a disqualifer although a pattern is worth noting.  The things that stand out are that the company doesn't have experience drilling complex wells and the same person is entered in every contact category (small company).

Why would anyone be in a hurry to lease to Petro-Guard?  Patience is a virtue worth cultivating.  Keep up with the main AC players (operating companies) and only consider an offer from them or from a land company representing them.  Beware of speculators.

We were contacted by Kirk B. with Amelia Resources because we had a large tract to offer, 6000+ acres.  He had meeting with his land and geology people in lafayette for review of our sections, townships, and ranges...  called back next day and said AC/TMS too deep for his interest,  19,000 to 20,000 feet in our area.

Sorry to hear it.  I'd suggest a second opinion.  Worth the expense for 6000+ acres.

Second opinion?    maybe be patient and see how EOG does with the wells they will drill in the AC just 15 miles due east of us. those wells permitted if not mistaken to 15,000 to 17,000 TVD then 5000' laterals.  The way Kirk respnded i just figured our depth put us out the picture completely.    thats why i found interest when petroguard was making offers just north of us as a wilcox play.

I'd quiz Petro-Guard thoroughly.  If the answers were right, I would consider a lease to them that was depth limited to the Wilcox.  To do that, and avoid any future litigation, you need a really experienced O&G attorney.  I would take a look at everything within a ten mile radius just to see if there were any other operators that were exploring the Wilcox.  I thought you were referring to the AC/TMS.

Thanks, Keith.  You might also consider starting an Austin Chalk group.  With multiple parishes seeing leasing action valuable intel may get be segregated into too many individual groups to keep up with.  General information of interest and value to all the members following the play might best be concentrated in one group.

I'd support that.  You would need to make some suggestions as to what information would go in the AC group and what would be best posted in the individual parish groups.  News and opinion of interest to all members focusing on the AC would be good in the main AC Group while specifics such as lease terms for a specific area would be best in a parish group.  No matter the guidelines, there will be some bleed over.  I think members will provide feedback about what works best for them.

Despite some of the  comments, I know from personnal experience that Petroguard is an outstanding company and 100% honest and honorable. Petroguard drilled an outstanding Wilcox well on our property in an environmentally safe manner. The well has been producing 300 barrels a month for two years and believe it will be producing for another 18 years from the current sand and a shallower sand. The unit for the well is about 90 acres and we have approx 45 acres in the unit. The well maintains the lease down to the wilcox on our acres in the unit. Petroguard and its partners will likely be one of, if not the biggest force in the development of the austin chalk.

We have 530 acres in sections 17 and 18 of T2S R3E, and have leased to Petroguard. They have already leased around 160,000 acres in SW Avoyelles (Bunkie/Homeplace/Eola/etc.), and I believe they are hoping to lease over 200,000 acres.  Before leasing , I went to Petroguard's offices and the President of the company spent several hours going through the science with me, and explaining the errors made by Anadarko  and others in designing the horizantals of earlier  Chalk wells (horizantals not cased). They have a vast amount of money, will be drilling many wells, and have the expertise to drill great wells.  And most importantly, they are 100% honest. All I can say is  am thrilled to be under lease to Petroguard, and worked hard to expeditiously conclude that lease which has generous financial terms, and all of the indemnity provisions and other protections that i deemed essential.
