My good friend, who became my brother in law, who then became my ex brother in law, sat in on bass with Bobby on a gig in Alexandria ( when we were still just friends). Bobby asked him to join the band on bass but Danny declined, this was in 69 or 70, he didn't want to be the only white dude in a black band. Next time I see him I will ask if has any regrets for turning the job down. Later in life he was bass player for Nancy Griffith and then Brookes and Dunn. Ronny Dunn wanted the band to look younger and canned Danny in 2006, he had been with the band since the get go when Kicks invited him in. Anyway country music was probably not his gig to begin with. Now he plays in Nashville with Wayne Jackson formerly of the Memphis Horns.

Wasn't that real early in the year of 65, cause I think that It burned to the ground in the late half of 65, I was 14 and rode down there in a Jaguar convertable with the dude that lived next to me, to have a few drinks and listen to the music.

I saw bobby and sam cooke in concert in oakland, calif. in jan. 64 .I remember that was one he did....did not know then sam had so little time left....quite a show!

A little trivia, about Gimme back my bullets. They stopped performing this song live in concert because they got tired of people throwing bullets at them everytime they performed it.

Something fun to do on youtube: Pull up a classic performance from 20 or 30 years ago and watch it, then try to find a recent one of the same song and compare them. Some of the artists have aged really well and look and sound good as ever. Some look like nursing home escapees and sound about as bad. Not the most productive use of your time, but fun!
