There are numerous Haynesville wells in the fields of north Bossier. Also Webster. Most were drilled in the 1980's. These are vertical wells producing from the Haynesville zone where it is sand. Not shale. If you look in the North Carterville Field (where the well you reference is located), you will see a number of them. The field code is 2344. Or you can examine the following wells: #187508, 188597 & 188980.
I guess my question now is what do the old wells have to do with this one? Wasn't it just permitted and drilled? Why would someone do this with prices so low and the cost to drill so high if they did not feel that there was potential in this area...why not go straight to the hot spots? NOt questioning your answer...just really hopeful for this area...i am an land owner in 22n and this well is in 23n. Thanks for this and any more info you have and wish to share!
The old wells are HA sand wells. This new well is a HA sand well. Small companies operate on a different level than the Shale Players we discuss on the site. Small companies for the most part live with the drilling rights they have, where they have them. They are not financially capable of getting in the shale play. They probably do their own drilling with their own rig. Their operational costs are low. And a good HA Sand well has a relatively shallow decline curve and a long life. The spot price of natural gas today has little relevance for a well that may be commercially productive for thirty or forty years. Many small independents have prospered for decades in north LA. They don't stop working when the price is low. They may go slower but they do what they have always done.
ok, so where has the most northern edge of the "shale" be defined...thus far?
Currently many in the industry believe that the HS is present into the 20N townships of Caddo and Bossier. What is very much in questions is, how productive is the shale that far north. The initial wells completed in north Caddo were a disappointment. Initial production in the 2 to 7 million cubic feet range. It is possible that improved production may be possible utilizing a different well completion design (frac). It is also possible that the petrophysical characteristics of the shale improve in townships further to the east along the river and into Bossier. As the economics of energy markets has worsened, drilling has slowed. It may be another year before enough wells are drilled to accurately define the northern limits of the shale. The Haynesville formation covers a wide geographic area. Its composition varies. In some places sand. In some shale. Although there are transition areas with sand and shale, they are generally not productive. And other than those transition areas, where the Haynesville is sand, it is not shale. Where you find vertical HA wells with long production history, the production is from the sand. The sand, unlike the shale, is not productive in a continuous nature. It is a conventional resource play. Think discreet separate reservoirs (pools). The shale is an unconventional play. It is relatively continuous and homogenous throughout its geographic area. fngrsxnpd, I hope this explanation helps. I wish everyone could have the H shale under their land. That will just not be the case.
Thanks so much! I am really happy for the people who have profited from it...i also hold some (small) acreage in Red river parish...no activity as of yet!!!but hopefully in the future!
You're welcome. Good Luck.
