QUESTION ABOUT PROS AND CONS IN GIVING PERMISSION FOR SEISMIC TESTING

I WAS RECENTLY APPROACHED FOR PERMISSION TO HAVE A CABLE RAN ACROSS MY YARD FOR SEISMIC TESTING. DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY INFORMATION ON THE PROS AND CONS OF ALLOWING OR DENYING PERMISSION?

We have only had Seismic done on our rural property in South Claiborne Parish. Cables were there for about a week to 10 days and no damage was done whatsoever. Nothing was permanently placed into the ground. Denying permission is your choice but I don't see any reason why you would need to do that.

If your talking about a neighborhood I am not sure what to tell you.

The company CGG Veritas did ours and were very respectful of our property and cleaned up after themselves when it was completed. They did do some timber damage but paid for that on top of the cost of the survey. I hope that helps!

I have always welcomed siesmic activity because if everything looks good, you may get a good lease.
And then you may make money on royalties, and that is what I hope for.
Some people say "well if it doesn't look good, no one will lease me". If that is the case, you will never make anything on royalty anyway.
But everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
I say let them come on my land for 2-3 weeks so I can be paid for the next 20-30 years no problem! LOL

How close is that to your house? I was told that they could not come within so many feet from a residence. I own some acreage and they did seismic on it, that was ok, but I don't think I would allow them to set off charges close to my house. I think there is a distance the company has to stay away from the water supply if you have a well.
the data collected by the seismic company is also propriety to that siesmic company, and you and i are not allowed to obtain a copy of their data. so if your property has had a seismic study then the oil company that drilling on your property is privy to that data. but no one else can see that data. i don't think the information can be sold like our social security or private data.
A company offered a pittance to allow them to do a seismic survey on our property. There was no info about when they were going to do the survey, or any real details about what they were going to do.

Being suspicious by nature, we didn't sign, figuring they would contact us again later and we'd get some further info, and add some specific conditions. Some of the neighbors signed.

They never paid anyone. They sent a letter some time later to everyone who did sign, saying essentially, "We aren't going to do the survey now, but but we reserve the right to do the survey later and pay you then."

i.e. no money was paid, but they think they have a contract. I'm doubtful this is legal, but we didn't sign anyway.
The 3D Seismic Permit we signed 2 days ago has a term of 18 months from the date of signature by the Grantor ( Landowner )
IMHO, seismic companies are the biggest trespassers there are. Simply pay and you can test, why lie about it?
We had a Seismic done last year and we were told to write on the contract that we were to receive payment as soon as the company received our contract. We did and received a check in about 2 weeks.
We also signed the contract with the stipulation that payment was to be made at the time the company received the contract. Payment was made promptly and they are still working to do the Seismic, our money is in the bank.
THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE INSIGHT WE GAVE OUR PERMISSION FOR THEM TO DO IT. THE CABLE WILL LAY RIGHT BESIDE OUR HOUSE SAY 10 FEET AWAY BUT THE CHARGES ARE NOT BEING SET OFF ANYWHERE NEAR THE HOUSE. WE HAVE BEEN LEASED ALMOST A YEAR NOW AND ARE HOPING THAT WITH GOOD RESULTS THE TESTING WILL SET OFF DRILLING.
