"More than 31,000 scientists across the U.S. – including more than 9,000 Ph.D.s in fields such as atmospheric science, climatology, Earth science, environment and dozens of other specialties – have signed a petition rejecting "global warming," the assumption that the human production of greenhouse gases is damaging Earth's climate."
"There is no convincing scientific evidence that human release of carbon dioxide, methane, or other greenhouse gases is causing or will, in the foreseeable future, cause catastrophic heating of the Earth's atmosphere and disruption of the Earth's climate," the petition states. "Moreover, there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth."

Cap and Trade and other taxation schemes based upon the farce of Anthropogenic global warming will add hundreds of billions if not trillions of dollars of tax burden on American energy consumers. We must reject these schemes and focus on energy independence, not squeezing even more dimes out of the already overburdened members of productive society.

If this is the Petition Project being referenced, which I haven't been able to fully determine it is, this is from their website.

"The Petition Project is financed by non-tax deductible donations to the Petition Project from private individuals, many of whom are signers of the petition. The project has no financing whatever from industrial sources. No funds or resources of the Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine are used for the Petition Project. The Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine has never received funds or resources from energy industries, and none of the scientists at the Institute have any funding whatever from corporations or institutions involved in hydrocarbon technology or energy production. Donations to the project are primarily used for printing and postage. Most of the labor for the project has been provided by scientist volunteers."

A lot of who's NOT funding it, can't figure why there isn't any disclosure as to who IS funding it.
An article on wnd.com is not going to convince many people. Go to their home page and see what their political agenda is. That doesn't mean anything in the article is wrong, just that the source doesn't carry much weight.

I think the important thing now to fight the global warming carbon tax is to point out that it's going to be an additional, hidden tax on everyone's electric, gas, and gasoline bills. The government will get BIG money from their carbon taxes, so they have an incentive to preach global warming. Carbon caps (taxes) will lead to energy shortages. It will increase the cost of everything you buy. 2 Billion Chinese and Indian subcontinent people are not going to play carbon cap games as they're trying to claw their way into the 21st century lifestyle, so we'll be giving up our lifestyle to the benefit of Asia, without actually doing anything to reduce the amount of CO2 going into the atmosphere.

I'm really disgusted by the idiotic ads on TV saying that we can save the economy by changing everything over to a non-carbon based energy system. It's the theory that the more money the government spends on something, the more regulation they put in place, the better the economy will be. Maybe we have to do it to protect the ecology, but realize that CO2 limits will really cost us all a lot.
KB: I think the whole point of all of this thread and a wider argument is that one of your "facts" is disputed and not fully agreed as a "fact". Does global warming exist? I know that the temperatures over the last several years have not been rising, in fact they have been going down. This from sources that still fight on the side of global warming. Why do you think we are hearing less about "global warming" and more about "climate change"? I think those driving this train have figured out that there is some data that doesn't fit the "global warming" thesis so they've moved the target to "climate change". There are other facts: like the fact that many of the reported pieces of evidence for global warming have been found to be in error and corrections have been made. That just points to the fact that our planet and its systems are highly complex and I'm not sure our man-made tools and measuring devices have the precision to measure and generate reliable data. Man is an imperfect, limited creature and we don't have the benefit of understanding everything...at least not in this life.

Add this to the list of "facts": cap and trade is a tax and is going to be manipulated by the politicians to fill their pockets and their coffers with money and then use that money to spend on programs that either fill their pockets with more money or have a high likelihood of getting them re-elected. Evidence: see Al Gore. He's getting rich on this climate change gig, flying around in jets and living in huge mansions, all the while berating us on how our "carbon footprint" is too big! Pot, meet kettle. Mr. Gore has a PhD in hypocrisy.

Oh well, this, like nationalized healthcare and government takeover of our lives, is something I can't stop alone and will end up being a nasty confrontation at some point in our country's future. Unfortunately! As long as the majority of the voters in this country pay little or no taxes and have the ability to vote themselves pay raises through the increased taxation of the minority, this will continue. I'll just get in my pick up truck and drive around looking at my oil wells! They make me happy!
"The "label" was changed from "global warming" to "climate change" because some folks can't grasp the basic concept that "global warming" actually leads to not only hotter temperatures, but also colder temperatures."

Who told you this? Big Brother! bwahahahahahahahahahahaha, global warming causes global cooling, bwhahahahahahahaahhaha!!!!!
And very sadly so, we could you use him right now instead of the Teleprompter of the United States.
It's a shame when leftists start to lose debates the result to insulting American heros, but hey if that's what you like to do feel free.
I'd take a dead, alzheimers riddled Ronald Reagan over the goofy POS...woops should be POTUS... we currently have running the country. Even dead, Ronald Reagan is much better than Bobamma. Take away his teleprompter and you get the uh's, duh's, etc. and what does come out is scarier. So far he hasn't come out with anything I can agree with policy wise. One can only hope he fails fails fails.
Yeah, Jimmy Carter was the real economic genius.
Jim, a 4% spread sounds like a good way to run a banking system provided we also have adequate oversight and supervision. Best.
Who all is old enough to remember the 70's when we were being told we were entering the next ice age? When it snowed here just about every year? The Sabine River froze over in 1983. My firm opinion is that the climate is cyclical. You have periods of cold winters and periods of warm, just like you have wet years and dry years. I don't dispute that the last 20 or 25 years have been warmer than normal, but I don't see where there is any evidence that it is a long term human-caused cycle. As to many of the scientists that are pushing global warming--as the late author Michael Crichton wrote--follow the money. Lots of grant money to be gained, not to mention publicity from pushing this false science.
If they get to ram-rod that "Cap-n-Trade" scam nonsense down our throats, we certainly will $pay$ dearly and then some!
It's just a scheme that some in the government has come up with so they can get their hand into the game (and your pocket)!
It's nothing more than candy coated selective discrimination.
How can it not be some kind of violation of our constitution?
Herefordsnshale,
I well remember being indoctrinated back in my 1970s junior and high school days with the prevailing scientific wisdom that an ice age was upon us or nearly so. Since then, many scientists reversed. Global warming is a fact. The question is whether or not it's primary cause is homo sapiens. Intuitively the answer is "maybe yes." But I was taught by teachers with such certitude many years ago that I am skeptical of the current certitude that says otherwise. ...It's really hot outside, so I came in for a drink of water and noticed your post. Cheers!
