I am curious if this is of any interest to people.  I track upcoming hearings regularly and maintain my internal map.  Would there be interest in seeing something like this updated bi-weekly or…Continue

"I think you've hit on an important point - how do you define the tiers?  I suspect Novi has a different definition than you, and that is likely a big reason your tier counts differ from theirs. Out of curiosity, what criteria did you use…"

"I'll add a little more context to this 24-hour test report. Skip is correct that frac designs and flowback strategies are significantly different today than they were 7 or 8 years ago, and that contributes substantially to the early-time…"

Ryan Howrish replied to Jesse Joyner's discussion BPX hits it out of the park with 3 Bossier Parish CULs
"Generally, I agree with this.  The Bossier target thins as you move North in the basin. There has been very little Bossier activity farther North than TWP 13N/14N, and even that activity is low in comparison to T9N, T10N, and T11N.  The…"

Ryan Howrish replied to Niel Loeb's discussion Estimate royalties based on company investment

Ryan Howrish replied to Niel Loeb's discussion Estimate royalties based on company investment
"The short answer is yes companies run full-field development economics, including land acquisition costs, before investing any capital (large or small).  Part of the economic evaluation includes an estimate of the royalties to be paid because…"

Ryan Howrish replied to Ryan Howrish's discussion Haynesville Well Cost Dashboard
"You are correct that there is a lag in the data.  Unfortunately, many operators wait at least a year (or more) before submitting their cost report while applying for Severance Tax Relief.  Additionally, there were 99 Haynesville wells with…"

Haynesville Well Cost Dashboard

Using data from SONRIS, I have created a Haynesville Well Cost Dashboard. This interactive tool lets you explore well cost data across the play, with filters for operators, fields, counties, and production dates, plus visualizations of cost trends over time. While royalty payments aren’t directly tied to well costs, understanding these costs can offer valuable insights. For instance, lower well costs may signal more development activity in your area. Conversely, high costs could indicate lower…See More

SWN Proposed Unit Line Alternate Unit Well

SWN filed an application for an alternate unit well that proposes the well to be drilled on the boundary between 6 units in 13N-09W.  This is a common practice in other unconventional basins like the Bakken in North Dakota, but this is the first time I have seen one in the Hayneville.  The application states that the production will be split equally between neighboring units to the east and west of the proposed well.  I will be interested to see how this application progresses.…See More

Tuscaloosa Trend Sits On Top Of Poorest Neighbourhood For Decades - Yet No Royalties Ever Paid To The Community -- Why??

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of)  nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.

This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…
