Cabot Announces Horizontal Haynesville Shale Success (3/22/10)

HOUSTON, March 22, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation (NYSE: COG) today announced a successful follow-up horizontal well in the Haynesville Shale at County Line in East Texas. This marks the first Company-operated horizontal Haynesville Shale well, which was drilled in St. Augustine County, Texas. The King G.U. #1 (69 percent working interest), was completed in a 4,487-foot horizontal leg with 14 stages and is currently producing to sales at 19 Mmcf per day.

It is interesting that, of the top 10 IPs in East Texas, six have been in San Augustine County. Not exactly where the play was defined in 2008...

Since our family minerals are farther south, I have not paid a lot of attention to the activity at the north end of the Texas play. It does seem like a fair number of wells have been drilled up there. I guess I could hang out on the Harrison board to get more familiar with things up there. What is the general opinion about the predicted EURs for wells there? Versus the well expenses for the operators?

For that matter it seems like the play in LA. is trending farther south than a lot of folks expected.
