That well is right in the big middle of a legacy lawsuit that began right before Katrina hit. Plaintiff was suing for 360 million, about 25 oil companies involved. The thing about the suit was these people would have lost this property to taxes if it wouldn't have been for Sid Richardson testing and hitting the Wilcox formation on the property in 1938.

I remember in the records at the courthouse, that there was a lawsuit involving hundreds of people heirs of heirs, several judges, and lots of attys, in the late 30s and early fortys. Best I recall was the final judgment placed the NW/4 of Sect 6 in the hands of about a dozen people in the fortys and they all died off over the years leaving the property into hands of heirs of heirs, about 150 people. Took years to sort out the title again.
