I have been asked if I have a clue about what goes on in the oil and gas business in Texas and I can honestly say, "NO!"
That is why I am here... so for those of us who thought oil and gas came out of pipes, hoses and/or cans... and actually believed that the oil/gas business followed the same EPA guidelines as the rest of the country.... I am asking for insight from those of you, who know.
Where do you look to see when a drilling permit has activity, when a well goes to 'spud', how does an individual monitor the progress of the drilling, where can you view production once the well 'comes in' and so on and so forth? I know I can look at the Railroad Commission of Texas site and find some results in a couple of the local papers out there, but is there more?

Jim - Thank you! Yeah, I have been monitoring the RRC site; keep viewing the same permits that never seem to change on the various surveys that have been leased. We were contacted by O'Benco (O'Brien) Energy about drilling permits back in December 2008 and January 2009... permits are all still showing, but I can't tell if they are drilling or anything? Cabot O&G and Southwestern Energy also contacted us on some of the various surveys they have leased from us. Some of the permits appeared, both sent us 'extra' paperwork in regard to the heir ship and requested updated list of heirs to put on file at the county seats of San Augustine and Shelby counties, but again that was months ago and the permits still show as little dots on the map. Some of these permits are 6 - 8 months old, and again it leaves me trying to figure out what, if anything is going on. I have opened the details and read all of the permit reports and am still at a loss. The people on this site seem to be the only viable source that I can find. For someone far removed this is all a 'magical mystery' of papers appearing for us to sign, bonus checks appearing for rights that never seem to happen, and promises of things to come from behind some unknown curtain yet never revealed.
