Why am I seeing so many NEW locations/rigs going up near/around Elm Grove on/around Hwy. 154 and 157? I thought with lower prices, they would not be drilling. Just curious.

Is that near Debroeck rd. per chance?

I'm not sure, I know some of these are close to Elston Road close by the Elm Grove School.

Questions lacking specific section-township-range information often fail to elicit responses.  The state O&G database requires either a well serial number or a s-t-r.

I guess my question was just a general question because I have heard that most companies were not drilling due to decreased prices and that Chesepeake had mainly moved out of area.  Then recently, in the last 1-2 months, I've seen an increase of drilling locations/wells in the Elm Grove Field. Maybe they are not Haynesville Shale wells. I will look at signs this week. Thank you.

Probably Cotton Valley horizontal wells.  If so, it's Indigo not Chesapeake.  Can't be sure without a s-t-r.

WSF, subsidiary of BHP Billiton - Petrohawk has a CV horizontal permitted in S23 and a rig drilling in S26.  The only other current activity in the township is by QEP with alternate Haynesville Shale horizontals in S30.

Skip, those two WSF wells look like Haynesville wells disquised as Cotton Valleys to me.  TVD 10,900'+.

SB, yep.  They're actually HA wells drilled in some of those early LCV units that contained depth definitions including the BO and HA zones.

Smith, here are some recently drilling Haynesville Shale wells in the area:

Nabors #M48 Rig, BHP, Caplis 23 #H1 Well, SN 244353, S26(23)-T16N-R12W

Patterson #216 Rig, QEP, Hutchinson 30 #H2A Well, SN 244320, S37(30)-T15(16)N-R12W

Smith, drilling activity has decreased significantly but is still continuing at a reduced level.  For example Chesapeake will reduce their rig count from the current 11 down to 6 by year end.

Thanks everyone
