ENCANA applies for Haynesville Units in S. Bossier
Encana has applied to the COC for 5 Haynesville Zone, Reservoir A Units in the Elm Grove Field. The Sections are 29, 30, 31 and 32, Township 17 North, Range 12 West and Section 36, 17 N, 13W. They also applied for Lower Cotton Valley Formation, Reservoir A Units in the same sections.

Very interesting parker. But not surprising. As more of the companies better known to the members are forced to reduce their leasehold acquisition activity and scale back capital expenditures for development, the fact that the Encana/SWEPI partnership is a big dog, as GoshDarn puts it, will become more evident. Cash will be king for the foreseeable future as sources of credit continue to contract. I posted a discussion about a month or so ago titled, "SWEPI Breaks Out" as a way to bring some attention to the fact that the joint venture partners were major players. I think we will see more from Shell and Encana in the months to come as they expand their exploration and production strategy beyond Red River and Sabine parishes. They are more than capable of filing the vacuum created by the credit crunch and the decline in the price of natural gas. We can use all the big dogs we can get in the HS Play.

Don't get excited too fast. Encana's budget has been cut from 800 to 300 million for this next year. If you think they will be as gracious with leasing as Chesapeake, don't get your hopes up.

Joe, I was referring to access to cash to develop. Shell is better positioned in that regard. And you are the first one that I know of to use the word, "gracious", in reference to CHK. As I own only one quarter acre of HS. my hopes are modest.

Budgets are re-evaluated regularly, as a means to keep shareholders confidence high, and to lure new opportunities.

Not sure about Shell. I do know that Shell and Encana are partnering on some of the shale exploration, but each is involved in their own as well.
