I found this a little surprising because I don't often look at Haynesville directed rigs in E TX.  Some recent research did reveal seven Apex rigs in San Augustine County.  There are 24 rigs listed for Louisiana HA wells.  If RBN Energy is correct, and they usually are, that means there are 48 Haynesville directed rigs in E TX.  I will go to my Texas rig report and see if I can count 48.

Today my Enverus Texas rig report shows 30 rigs drilling HA wells.  RBN seems to be using the Baker Hughes rig count and I can not explain the significant discrepancy.

Skip -- I am curious how drilling rigs are run. Do the operators like Apex and BPX own the rigs they are using? Are they rented or leased? Wondering if the current Apex rigs listed above in the Greenwood Waskom could be next used by BPX for their interests in the Greenwood Waskom? In other words, do the rigs go back and forth between operators like that? Or do the rigs stay in one operators possession for long periods of time? Thanks.

Benjamin, most Haynesville operators contract rigs from one of a handful of drilling companies.  I think the contracts are for a set time period but could also be for a set number of wells.  Expand runs rigs in their own name so I assume they own those.  The independent drilling companies currently working the Louisiana side of the Haynesville fairway are Precision, Scan Explorer, Cactus, H&P, Nabors, Independence and Patterson UTI.  I think contracts are generally for many months.  If a contract runs out that driller could then sign with a different operating company.
