Where can I find the size of a haynesville unit in Louisiana.  I know most haynesville shale units are sectional, but does the operator disclose the number of acres in the unit?  Since the number of acres in a section vary, I figured unit size will vary also.

Thanks.

There is no standard size in acres for a HA Drilling & Production Unit although most are a governmental section. And standard sections do vary slightly in total acres. If you wish to know the exact acreage of a specific drilling unit, you have to look it up in the application.

From my experience , the application is not always exact as to specific acreage in a unit.
SB is correct as "in exact to the fraction of an acre". However unit applications contain a total acre figure that is "+/-" and usually close enough for mineral owners to figure their percentage of mineral acres in the unit.
Thank you for responding.

Is there a way to view unit applications from wells drilled in the 1950s and 1960s?

Thanks.
no, but you can view the unit orders. all unit orders are available on SONRIS.
Thank you.

Unfortunatley, the unit orders doesn't have the size of the units.
Does the unit order at least specify that it's a full township/range/section? Is there a map as part of the unit order?
most unit orders will have a map. There will always be some description, otherwise how would we know what the unit ecompassed?
Yes, the unit orders always have a approximate size. The true size is determined when a full survey is made for a division order.

For units that are based on section lines (or 1/4 section or whatever...geographic units..) the actual size can be found by looking at the original PLS maps.
look at this example, the maps clearly show the approximate unit size.

Thank you for your response.

I looked at over 12 unit orders today that did not have approximate acreage. I was probably looking at the wrong orders or something. I will keep digging and will hopefully come up with what I am looking for.

Thanks again.
give me a refernce #....
