Is this the future for all Cotton Valley wells?

So far only 2 of these wells have production recorded on SONRIS. One well was around 5200mcfd and the other was around 3200mcfd with a 36/64 choke. Here are the wells of interest below and there is another scheduled for hearing by the DNR. Operators involved so far include Devon, Exco, and Wildhorse.

"Around Ruston" is a little vague.  Operators will continue to drill vertical CV wells where it is more economic to do so.  And will drill horizontal wells where the formation is sufficiently "tight" that the completions support the increased cost.
You can look at the wells lat and long if you want specific locals.
The database does not provide the information required to make a determination even with specific locations no matter how defined.  You'd need electric logs and a geologist to interpret them.  Areas of reduced permeability where the CV is "tight" are scattered and not highly contiguous.  The number of horizontal CV completions are still too few to make any generalized projections.
I see what you're saying. Good point. This could be isolated to a few sections but who knows. At least it's good news for those who already have these wells. There is an old well drilled in the section where I have some land in west monroe that was P&A in the 70s. The mud log showed the target as CV black shale. Maybe Devon, Exco, or Wildhorse will check it out one of these days.
I think operators will test horizontal completions wherever they have science that supports the added expense.  Until nat gas prices provide better economics, the number of attempts may be limited.

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
