HOW MUCH UNLEASED, DEVELOPABLE ACREAGE REMAINS IN THE HS PLAY FOR MAJOR OPERATING COMPANIES NOT CURRENTLY ACTIVE

I HAVE LONG SPECULATED ON THE BOUNDARIES OF THE HS PLAY AND THE AMOUNT OF UNLEASED ACRES THAT REMAIN AVAILABLE FOR THE ENTRY OF NEW, MAJOR OPERATING COMPANIES. THE GENERALLY ACCEPTED CURRENT BOUNDARIES INCLUDE HUGE LEASEHOLD HELD BY PRODUCTION. LAND SPECULATORS ALSO HOLD SIGNIFICANT ACREAGE. THE REMAINING UNLEASED ACRES HELD BY LAND/MINERAL OWNERS MAY BE ISOLATED AND NOT ATTRACTIVE TO NEW MAJOR DEVELOPERS BECAUSE IT IS NOT SUFFICIENTLY CONTIGUOUS FOR DEVELOPMENT PURPOSES. AS A MEANS TO ILLUSTRATE MY THEORY, I AM INCLUDING A TOWNSHIP MAP OF NW. LA. THAT DEPICTS THOSE TOWNSHIPS WHICH CONTAIN SECTIONS THAT HAVE BEEN UNITIZED. PLEASE NOTE THAT ALTHOUGH NOT ALL SECTIONS MAY BE INCLUDED IN DRILLING UNITS, MUCH OF THE SURROUNDING ACRES ARE UNDER LEASE OR HBP. I DO NOT KNOW THE ANSWER TO THE QUESTION I POSE BUT I THINK IT IS WELL WORTH COMMENT AND DEBATE AMONG THE MEMBERS. THE HS PLAY IS RAPIDLY MATURING AS TO SIGNIFICANT PROSPECTIVE AREAS NOT LEASED, HBP OR NOT UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE LAND/MINERAL OWNER. AT THIS TIME, MY OPINION IS THAT ANY NEW, MAJOR OPERATING COMPANY CAN ONLY ENTER THE PLAY IN A SUBSTANTIVE MANNER BY ACQUIRING THE EXISTING LEASEHOLD OF ONE OR MORE CURRENT OPERATORS WITH SIGNIFICANT LEASEHOLD. IF SUCH WERE TO OCCUR, WOULD IT HAVE ANY MAJOR IMPACT ON BONUS OFFERS EXCEPTING RELATIVELY LOCALIZED INSTANCES?

Luckily, for the landowners (and the O&G industry), the NG is not leaking to the surface. Be it a few months, or a few years, the NG will still be there for whenever someone desires to recover it. While I may not be a spring chicken, I do not plan to go anywhere soon. The Haynesville Shale is N.Louisiana/E.Texas rendition of a movie called "Field Of Dreams". In this case, we may not have built the shale, but "They will come".
Skip,
Are the townships dipicted on your map Haynesville units?
Yes. But not the sections. Did you open the attachment. I hope it works.
Personally I feel the map is alittle vague.

The SONRIS gis map is better. not totally up to date, but better.
Yep, SONRIS has more detail. I do not track individual HS wells. Just HS drilling units. Baron, I used my map to help move the discussion along as to how much the play has "filled in". Within the next few months, more townships will have units established. And the only ones left unshaded will be urban areas and townships with heavy HBP leasehold. My map is a macro view but simpler and more straight forward, imo, to the topic of the discussion.
My only proble with your map is that, you don't know if the is one section unitized or 36. Big difference in area.
Yep. But one containing that much detail would be far too big to be useful on line. I don't mind sharing but I do consider much of my research proprietary. If I was tracking HS wells, there would be precious few townships left unshaded.
Eventually anywhere there are HA wells, you will have to expect that they will soon be unitized.

So keep your highlighter handy.
Baron. I think I have just enough ink left. I doubt that there will be any more public hearings past the posted Dec. 16 date. I will work on an overview of 2008 and share what I can when I'm finished.
Skip, Yes it worked. Its great. I guess what I meant to say was are at least some of the units that are in the highlited townships Haynesville Units?
BirdDawg. The highlighted townships all contain one or more sections that have been unitized or have a unitization application pending for HS production.
Golly, GoshDarn. That's a lot to ask of a fella in an open forum. If you click on Sponsors and go to my page, you will find my contact info. I suggest you send me a personal email.

The Lithium Connection to Shale Drilling

Shale drilling and lithium extraction are seemingly distinct activities, but there is a growing connection between the two as the world moves towards cleaner energy solutions. While shale drilling primarily targets…
