We leased the land we knew about and have now found out that our late father had mineral rights to 150 acres elsewhere in the Parish. How do we check if the mineral rights are still valid? Do we call the tax assesor or the Parish court clerk? Are mineral rights lost if it's been over ten years? To be honest we don't actually know how long it's been. We're happy for the small amount we have, but we'd LOVE to find out that we have more.

Agree. Definitely something you want to do right, not 'right now'.
Oliva, you may have something but it looks like it may be complicated. Assessor and clerk will probably not be able to help you because it will go way back in time and it will be cut up into lots of people.

You may need a good oil & gas attorney to review it after you have some of the basic documents.

The Pesnell Law Firm (318) 226-5577 and
Davidson, Jones & Summers (318) 429-6309 are about the finest you will find.

Both work with landowners. Expect to pay about $250 an hour though, so the more documentation you can provide the better.

Thanks for the referrals. My siblings & I have a ton of wills, etc. (we kept every bit of paperwork for years back) so hopefully the lawyer won't be too bad, but I appreciate the heads up about the cost.
