Thanks Jesse.
More about the almost 50 years of O&G industry experience than it is time. Lots of "items" stuck in my brain! LOL
At least your brain is functioning. Not all pros can say that these days.
I wish my hard drive was properly functioning like the old days.
My first job on a 120-foot-deep survey rig up around where they killed Bonnie & Clyde . . . i.e., very near my mom's family's 52-ish acres . . . the job I had wasn't for an oil company.
Nope.
I was a wet-behind-the-ears high school graduate right out of Broadmoor . . . and I was hired by the DNR . . . specifically . . . the Louisiana Geological Survey . . . to bring back to Huey's field house (on the LSU campus near the wow-wow-wow Indian Mounds, up from Tiger stadium) . . . shallow drilling cores in order to analyze the sand samples.
One week out the field up in North Louisiana drilling holes in watermelon patches . . . drilling some free water wells in the process since the boss didn't care what happened to the hole after we got what we wanted.
Then one week in the lab cracking rocks, gyrating the layers of screens to get to the size of dirt they were chasing.
I was told we were searching for certain sand for possible glassmaking. Hey, I didn't know. I just did what I was told and was happy someone was telling me what to do for a paycheck.
I guess that was my first . . . real, real job . . . certainly the very first with an expense account. Cool stuff for an 18-year-old, let me tell ya.
I was on a crew of maybe 5 guys . . . and maybe one guy in the crew was a geologist. Plus, the head state geologist back then was Leo Hough.
Nice guy, that Leo. He hired me and gave me the job. I'd just turned 18, and I was on an expense account . . . staying in the field in a motel with the crew . . . with my motel and food bills being paid for by the great citizens of Louisiana.
Worked for me.
Be good, my friend. Always a great pleasure, Rock Man. Thank you again for helping my family. We very, very much appreciate it, sir.
Enjoy.
