They're waking up.

It's the WORLD's best hope. Shale gas is all over the globe and could break the stranglehold O&G cartels now have.  It' cheap and abundant and relatively clean.

 

However, the worldwide public will have to be convinced of it's safety. Some of their concerns are:

 

- the drilling will pollute aquafiers

- the drilling will cause earthquakes

- gas lines rupture and blow up neighborhoods

- terrorists blow up lines or plants (in other countries)

- the need for large amounts of water in areas that are dry

 

Each of those risks can be managed - but they are real and they must be dealt with. American know-how could help many nations develop their own resources instead of being dependent on others.  Chesapeake is in China and the rest of Asia is watching.

 

Is this realistic at all?  I would like to hope it is - but it's going to take a lot of convincing of the public and lawmakers. Our voices in the US Congress are small compared to the coal companies. But, overseas the power dynamics might be different.

Might be a lot of a lot of sober reality when gasoline hits $5/gallon, huh?
