The amounts in the mailed offers to purchase royalty have greatly increased recently. Is there any new activity? We are in the southwest portion of the county.

Permalink Reply by Skip Peel - Mineral Consultant on Not sure what the offer amounts are that are referenced here but generally speaking offers to buy minerals have taken a significant downturn since the first of the year along with the price of natural gas. I am temporarily advising clients to delay soliciting purchase offers or accepting the lowered offer amounts. Only in dire need of fast cash should anyone be considering a sale at this time.
In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near Southern University, Louisiana—yet neither the university ( that I am aware of) nor local residents appear to have received any compensation for the minerals extracted from their land.
This area has suffered immense environmental degradation…
