I just noticed on Sonris that Sanchez Oil & Gas permitted a 7,470' vertical wildcat well (Denkmann #1) in Section 27 of T2S/R4E, St Helena Parish. This is clearly TMS territory! Would anyone have any idea what the target zone is for this well?

(Good example - similar situation in Wilkinson County has a single Wilcox Sand well that has made over 200,000 BO that has been offset on four sides with dry holes)
Inexpensive way to continue operations to hold a lease (if that is their plan here).
Permalink Reply by Spring Branch, mineral owner on April 24, 2015 at 5:34 It would seem to me that a 7400' Wilcox well would cost at least a $ 500,000 to a $1,000,000 to drill. That's a pretty expensive way to hold a lease unless it is a legitimate Wilcox prospect, especially considering the price of TMS leases these days
Permalink Reply by Rock Man on April 24, 2015 at 6:44 Agree on costs but if lease is getting ready to expire and this well buys them 180 days or more of time, it may be a good move.
This part of SW Miss is riddled with Wilcox dry holes - very tough and risky exploratory prospecting area for this type of target
As always, just my opinion on this- but I have been involved with the drilling of some of those Wilcox dry holes in this area
Permalink Reply by RGV AG on April 24, 2015 at 8:54 Rockman, that is interesting. If you don't mind me asking, which well are you referring to?
Permalink Reply by Rock Man on April 24, 2015 at 9:03 If you mean the Wilcox dry holes I mentioned, it was several that were drilled with Griffin & Griffin and a couple of other operators back in the 90's. I honestly cannot remember well names but they were in Adams, Amite and Wilkinson Counties in SW Miss as well as 2-3 on the Louisiana side of the state line.
Permalink Reply by RGV AG on April 24, 2015 at 9:07 Thanks for the reply, no I was more curious about the well that had produced 200K Barrels. Reason I ask is we have a small interest in a well, has to be Wilcox, that is basically making very few BOPD, and they have unitized the field to basically tie up a large amount of acreage.
This was a lease and well that was executed I want to say in 1991 or thereabouts.
Permalink Reply by Rock Man on April 24, 2015 at 9:11 Shockingly I was able to find this well on DrillingInfo (memory is better than I thought). Prod graph attached - located in SW part of Amite Co.
It is only 153 MBO and not 200. Memory not that great I guess!
Permalink Reply by RGV AG on April 24, 2015 at 10:02 Thanks for the information. The well(s) I am curious about are in T3N of Wilkinson County, I have tried to find some specific information, but there have been so many up there that it is hard for a rookie to decipher.
Permalink Reply by Rock Man on April 24, 2015 at 11:19 Here's a map and list of Wilcox producers in T3N in Wilkinson Co. Lots of details on the list including last production date and average per day rates as of last month of production (basically monthly production divided by days).

In researching the decades-old Tuscaloosa Trend and the immense wealth it has generated for many, I find it deeply troubling that this resource-rich formation runs directly beneath one of the poorest communities in North Baton Rouge—near…

AboutAs exciting as this is, we know that we have a responsibility to do this thing correctly. After all, we want the farm to remain a place where the family can gather for another 80 years and beyond. This site was born out of these desires. Before we started this site, googling "shale' brought up little information. Certainly nothing that was useful as we negotiated a lease. Read More |
