Greg, how about letting us have a well Serial Number so we can see the entire well scout entry?  With just this, I'd have to guess "Pull Well Head" but I would expect that might include a Work Order with additional information.

99.9% sure "WH" is well head

The "P" probably means "placing or setting" the well head before frac job commences.

But agree with Skip - please post a serial number so that one can see this usage in context to everything else

Thanks for that SN - after looking at this well, it is clear that after drilling this well to TD and setting casing, operator skid / walked the rig over about 40' to drill the other permitted lateral on this same pad.

During this type of "same pad" operations, extreme safety is undertaken to protect the first well bore to avoid damaging it or have some sort of accident that could compromise both the wells in addition to the people on location.

In these cases, a wellhead is set below ground level (in the cellar or sump area that is dug out prior to drilling the well) and a plate is set (usually welded) onto the top of the wellhead @ ground level.

I will stick to my original comment that "WH" is well head.

The "P" most likely stands for "protected".

PWH is not a historically normal term and cannot be found in ANY reference in the oil field. However, this practice of drilling wells on same pad with surface locations only a few tens of feet apart is new territory in the oil field.

And new territory leads to new terms and acronyms.

Thank you for your responses.   I am seeing a lot of abbreviations as the operators are giving more data as to the status of wells being drilled and could not make a logical guess at this one.

The well I was looking at was sn 253032.  Guess it is a SWN/GEP term.

You would be amazed at some of the terminology that has sprouted out of the oilfield over the years.

Different generations = different terms! LOL

What was once status WOC (Waiting On Completion) is now DUC (Drilled, Uncompleted).  Energy journalist like to use the term,  DUC, pronounced Ducks.  Drillers lingo is a whole different lexicon.
